Product information "IKA C-MAG HP 7 Hotplate, Ceramic Surface 180 x 180 mm, Without Stirring Function, 0003581800"
Not every workstation needs a stirrer as well, for example when stirring is done externally and a water bath is only to be temperature-controlled or a vessel is only to be heated. The IKA C-MAG HP 7 (0003581800) is a hotplate without magnetic stirring function, with 1000 watts of heating power, a ceramic surface measuring 180 x 180 millimetres and a heating temperature range of 50 to 500 degrees Celsius. It is technically derived from the proven C-MAG HS series, but without the stirring drive.
1000 watts of heating power without stirring function
The ceramic plate transfers the heating power directly to the vessel placed on it and covers a temperature range of 50 to 500 degrees Celsius, set with a rotary knob with an accuracy of 5 Kelvin. According to the data sheet, the heating rate is 5 Kelvin per minute, a guide value for estimating how quickly a given volume of water reaches the set temperature. As no stirring drive is fitted, the otherwise usual speed scale is omitted and operation is limited to setting the temperature. According to the manufacturer, a volume of up to 10 litres of water can be heated with it.
Can be extended with external temperature measurement in the medium
Via the connection socket according to DIN 12878, an ETS-D5 contact thermometer can be retrofitted to measure the temperature directly in the medium instead of only at the plate surface, which is practical for oil baths, for example, or when an externally driven stirrer is already part of the setup. The sensor itself is not included in the scope of delivery.
Compact design for integration into existing setups
With dimensions of 220 x 105 x 330 millimetres and a weight of 4.4 kilograms, the HP 7 can be integrated into existing experimental setups without taking up much space, for example underneath a stand with a separate stirrer or as a plain heat source for an oil bath, without having to allow extra space for a stirring unit. Protection class IP 21 protects against vertically falling water drops.
Easy integration into existing setups
Because the electronics of the HP 7 are designed exclusively for the heating function, operation is reduced to a single rotary knob for the set temperature, with no scale or control for a speed that does not exist anyway. This makes the unit an uncomplicated addition to setups in which a separate stirrer, for example an overhead stirrer with its own stand, is already available and only a reliable heat source underneath is missing.
Typical applications
As a hotplate without stirring function, the C-MAG HP 7 is technically suited for:
- Heating vessels and oil baths without a simultaneous need for stirring
- Combination with separately driven stirrers, for example overhead stirrers
- Temperature control of reaction blocks or carrier plates from the IKA accessories range
- Simple heat source in teaching and training laboratories
- Replacement purchase for workstations where a separate stirrer is already available
Selection guide: hotplate only or heating magnetic stirrer
Within the C-MAG family, IKA basically distinguishes between HS models with stirring and heating and HP models with heating function only:
| Model | Stirring | Volume (H2O) | Heating power | Plate size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| C-MAG HP 7 (this unit) | no | 10 l | 1000 W | 180 x 180 mm |
| C-MAG HP 4 | no | 5 l | 250 W | 100 x 100 mm |
| C-MAG HS 7 | yes, 100 to 1500 rpm | 10 l | 1000 W | 180 x 180 mm |
| C-MAG HS 10 | yes, 100 to 1500 rpm | 15 l | 1500 W | 260 x 260 mm |
If stirring is done anyway or a stirrer is not needed at all, the hotplate only saves purchase costs compared with an HS model with the same heating rating. As soon as stirring and heating are required together in one unit, one of the HS models is the more suitable choice.
Differences from the heating magnetic stirrers and the smaller HP 4
The IKA C-MAG HP 4 covers smaller volumes of up to 5 litres with a smaller plate area and 250 watts of heating power and does not have a connection for an external contact thermometer. If stirring is required in addition to heating, the IKA C-MAG HS 7 and the IKA C-MAG HS 10 offer the same heating technology with an integrated stirring drive. For larger heating surfaces of up to 260 x 260 millimetres, IKA also offers the C-MAG HP 10 as a hotplate only, and for smaller batches the C-MAG HS 4 is available as a more compact alternative with stirring function.

Scope of delivery
- 1 x IKA C-MAG HP 7 Hotplate (0003581800)
Stirring bars are not included, as the C-MAG HP 7 has no stirring function. An external temperature sensor such as the ETS-D5 is likewise not included in the scope of delivery.
Use, installation, maintenance and disposal
With protection class IP 21, the C-MAG HP 7 is protected against vertically falling water drops and is designed for operation in a fume hood or on a stable, level laboratory bench at up to 80 percent relative humidity. As no stirrer is fitted, the plate is particularly suitable for installation underneath separate stirring drives or stands. Sufficient clearance for cables and accessories should be ensured here. The ceramic surface is chemically resistant but should be allowed to cool before cleaning. At the end of its service life, the hotplate, as an electrical appliance, does not belong in household waste but in separate collection of waste electrical equipment; the manufacturer's WEEE registration number is DE 66784213.
Cost logic: when it pays to do without a stirring function
If a separate stirrer, for example an overhead stirrer, is already in use, or if no stirring is needed for the application at all, the hotplate only saves noticeable purchase costs compared with an HS model with identical heating power, without compromising on the actual heating function. This applies in particular when several workstations with different stirrers are to use the same heating power, for example in practical course rooms with permanently mounted stands. For standard workstations where stirring and heating are typically needed together, an HS model is usually the more economical overall solution, because it makes an additional stirrer unnecessary.

Frequently asked questions
Can the C-MAG HP 7 also stir?
No, the HP 7 is a hotplate without magnetic stirring drive. The HS models of the C-MAG series are available for this.
Is an external temperature sensor included in the scope of delivery?
No, the connection socket according to DIN 12878 is present, but an ETS-D5 contact thermometer has to be purchased separately.
How does the HP 7 differ from the smaller HP 4?
With 1000 instead of 250 watts, the HP 7 offers a considerably higher heating power, a larger plate of 180 x 180 millimetres and, in addition, a connection for an external contact thermometer, which the HP 4 does not have.
What is the maximum volume that can be heated?
According to the manufacturer, up to 10 litres of water.
Is the HP 7 suitable for an oil bath?
The hotplate itself is designed for direct heat transfer to vessels placed on it. For oil bath applications, IKA offers suitable oil bath attachments in its accessories range, which can be placed on the 180 x 180 millimetre plate.
Does accessory equipment from the HS series also fit the HP 7?
Carrier plates, reaction blocks and oil bath attachments from the IKA accessories range are designed for the 180 x 180 millimetre surface of the HP 7 and are generally also compatible with other C-MAG models of the same plate size, for example the C-MAG HS 7.
How is the C-MAG HP 7 disposed of properly?
As an electrical appliance, it belongs at a collection point for waste electrical equipment rather than in household waste. The manufacturer's WEEE registration number is given in the section Use, installation, maintenance and disposal.
