Product information "IKA C-MAG HS 10 Magnetic Stirrer with Heating, Ceramic Work Surface 260 x 260 mm, 15 Litre, 0003581400"
Larger beakers, several flasks side by side or batches above 10 litres need a work surface that also supports this load across its area, not just a powerful heater. For this, the IKA C-MAG HS 10 (0003581400) comes with a 260 x 260 millimetre ceramic plate, considerably larger than that of the C-MAG HS 7, combined with 1500 watts of heating power and a stirring capacity of up to 15 litres of water.
Large ceramic work surface for greater vessel variety
With 260 x 260 millimetres, the ceramic plate offers considerably more room than the 180 x 180 millimetre surface of the C-MAG HS 7, for example for wide crystallising dishes, large round-bottom flasks or several smaller vessels at the same time. The heating power of 1500 watts covers a temperature range of 50 to 500 degrees Celsius, set via a rotary knob with an accuracy of 5 kelvin and shown on an LED display. A fixed safety circuit limits the plate temperature to a maximum of 550 degrees Celsius regardless of the setpoint temperature.
Stirring up to 15 litres, load up to 20 kilograms
As with the C-MAG HS 7, the stirring drive covers a speed range of 100 to 1500 revolutions per minute, set via a six-step scale, and stirring bars up to 80 millimetres in length can be used. The higher permissible load of 20 kilograms makes it possible to place additional stand material, reflux condensers or double-jacketed reaction vessels on the plate alongside the stirred material without exhausting the limit values.
Expandable with external temperature measurement
Via the connection socket according to DIN 12878, an ETS-D5 contact thermometer can be retrofitted if required, in order to measure the temperature directly in the medium instead of only at the plate surface. The sensor itself is not part of the scope of delivery of the C-MAG HS 10 and must be procured separately if required.
Higher heating power for faster heating times
With 1500 instead of 1000 watts, the C-MAG HS 10 delivers more heating power than the C-MAG HS 7, distributed over a larger area, which reduces the time to reach the setpoint temperature at a comparable fill level. Especially with larger quantities of water or several vessels heated at the same time, the difference in power is noticeable in everyday laboratory work, without anything having to be changed in the operating logic compared with the smaller model.
Typical applications
With a large work surface and increased heating power, the C-MAG HS 10 is technically suited for:
- Preparing and heating larger volumes up to 15 litres
- Stirring or heating several smaller vessels on one plate at the same time
- Batches with larger crystallising dishes or wide round-bottom flasks
- Routine processes in which fast heating through higher heating power saves time
- Laboratory workstations with changing vessel size without changing the base device
Selection guide within the C-MAG series
Within the C-MAG family, the HS 10 marks the largest work surface and highest heating power among the models with analogue operation:
| Model | Plate size | Stirring capacity (H2O) | Heating power | Operation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| C-MAG HS 10 (this device) | 260 x 260 mm | 15 l | 1500 W | Analogue scale, LED setpoint temperature |
| C-MAG HS 7 | 180 x 180 mm | 10 l | 1000 W | Analogue scale, LED setpoint temperature |
| C-MAG HS 7 control | 180 x 180 mm | 20 l | 1000 W | LCD, PT1000/ETS-D5/ETS-D6, RS232, USB |
| C-MAG HP 7 | 180 x 180 mm | 10 l (heating only) | 1000 W | Analogue scale, LED setpoint temperature |
Anyone who needs documented temperature control in the medium or interfaces is better served by the C-MAG HS 7 control, even if its plate area is smaller. Anyone who, on the other hand, is mainly looking for space on the work surface and heating power, without needing digital functions, will find the largest area of the series in the HS 10.
Differences from the nearest C-MAG models
The IKA C-MAG HS 7 covers most standard batches up to 10 litres with the smaller 180 x 180 millimetre plate and 1000 watts of heating power and is the more compact alternative. The IKA C-MAG HS 7 control brings, with a smaller plate, a higher stirring capacity of 20 litres as well as a digital display and interfaces. Anyone who only needs to heat but not stir will find, with the IKA C-MAG HP 7 a pure heating plate in the same form factor as the HS 7.

Use, installation, maintenance and disposal
With degree of protection IP 21, the C-MAG HS 10 is protected against vertically falling drip water and designed for operation in the fume hood or on a stable, level laboratory bench at up to 80 percent relative humidity. Because of the larger work surface and higher heating power, sufficient distance to flammable materials, solvent bottles and adjacent devices should be planned when setting up, particularly with continuous operation with several vessels on the plate. The ceramic surface is chemical-resistant, but the device should cool down and be disconnected from the mains before cleaning. The fixed safety circuit at 550 degrees Celsius additionally protects against overheating. At the end of its service life, the device does not belong in household waste as electrical equipment but in separate waste electrical equipment collection; the manufacturer's WEEE registration number is DE 66784213.
Investment logic: when the larger work surface pays off
Anyone who regularly works with vessels that become tight on a 180 x 180 millimetre plate, or who wants to heat several smaller vessels at the same time, gains noticeable flexibility with the 260 x 260 millimetre plate of the HS 10, without having to place a second, smaller device next to it. For standard batches up to 10 litres, where vessel size is irrelevant, the more compact and somewhat cheaper C-MAG HS 7 is usually sufficient. If a documented temperature measured in the medium is also required, the investment should go into the control version with the smaller plate rather than into the pure area enlargement of the HS 10.

Frequently asked questions
How much larger is the work surface compared with the C-MAG HS 7?
The plate of the HS 10 measures 260 x 260 millimetres compared with 180 x 180 millimetres for the HS 7, so considerably larger vessels or several vessels fit on the surface at the same time.
Can the C-MAG HS 10 also be used for stirring only, without heating?
Yes, speed and heating temperature are set via two separate controls and work independently of each other.
What is the maximum load on the work surface?
20 kilograms, which includes additional stand material or accessories on the plate and is thus above the 15 kilograms of the smaller C-MAG HS 7.
Is external temperature measurement in the medium possible?
Via the connection socket according to DIN 12878, an ETS-D5 contact thermometer can be retrofitted, which, however, must be procured separately.
Which stirring bars are included in the scope of delivery?
Three IKAFLON magnetic stirring bars of 20, 30 and 40 millimetres, suitable for bar lengths up to 80 millimetres.
How is the C-MAG HS 10 disposed of properly?
As electrical equipment, it belongs at a waste electrical equipment collection point instead of in household waste, and the manufacturer's WEEE registration number is given in the section Use, installation, maintenance and disposal.
