The IKA I-MAG is a high-performance industrial magnetic stirrer that bridges the gap between traditional laboratory equipment and process engineering production drives. The system is designed to reliably homogenise large volumes of up to 300 litres (in combination with the I-MAG SP mounting frame). A key feature is the structural separation of the drive unit and the control unit: whilst the drive achieves the high IP 64 protection rating thanks to a sealed stainless steel housing – meaning it can be safely installed in harsh, damp or corrosive environments – the control unit (IP 22) can be positioned flexibly.

Drive technology and process reliability

Inside the I-MAG is a wear-free motor which drives the stirring element via a magnetic coupling featuring high-performance neodymium magnets. This coupling is strong enough to reliably handle even viscous media or stirring processes in double-walled vessels where the drive is located at a considerable distance. For critical processes, the I-MAG features intelligent safety functions: an adjustable start-up speed prevents the stirring rod from ‘breaking away’ during the acceleration phase. Should the magnetic coupling nevertheless break, the system detects this automatically (‘break detection’) and notifies the user.

Connectivity and Integration

The wired controller is not only used for manual control but also acts as a gateway for process automation. Equipped with USB, LAN, Wi-Fi and RS232 interfaces as well as analogue inputs and outputs, the I-MAG can be seamlessly integrated into networks or controlled via external signals (e.g. foot switches). Compatibility with laboratory software such as labworldsoft ® 6 also enables comprehensive documentation and remote control of complex stirring profiles.
