Not every shaking station is connected to a sample robot. Those who simply wish to mix do not require end-point positioning and will opt for the IKA KS 130 control NOL, the orbital shaker without this feature. Technically, it is otherwise very similar to the KS 130 control: 230 x 230 mm platform, 4 mm shaking stroke, 2.0 kg shaking weight including the attachment. IKA describes the design as compact and low-profile, with a height of 98 mm.

How to operate it

Speed and time are set electronically. The speed ranges from 80 to 800 rpm; both values are shown on LED displays. The timer covers 1 to 5,999 minutes, equivalent to 99 hours and 59 minutes, after which the unit switches off. Without a set time, it runs continuously; the permissible duty cycle is 100 %. According to IKA, the 4.0 mm stroke ensures uniform mixing.

Control and logging

The unit can be controlled externally via the RS-232 interface; the analogue output provides the speed as a voltage value. Runs are documented using labworldsoft; the software is available in Lite, Starter and Pro versions and must be ordered separately.

On the KS 130 control, the speed range, stroke, shaking weight, dimensions and weight are identical; in addition, end-point positioning for robot-controlled sampling is built in. For larger vessels, there is the KS 260 control NOL with a shaking weight of 7.5 kg and a stroke of 10 mm, also without end-point positioning. Those wishing to move small loads at very high speeds should consider the VXR basic Vibrax with up to 2,200 rpm.
