IKA lab disc white Magnetic Stirrer without Heating, 15 to 1,500 rpm, up to 0.8 L, 0003907500

Twelve millimetres high, weighing just 599 grams, yet still a fully-fledged magnetic stirrer: the IKA lab disc white stirs solutions of up to 0.8 l of water at 15 to 1,500 rpm. It has no moving parts; the magnetic field is generated by a magnetic coil. According to the manufacturer, there is no wear on the drive mechanism. The polyester film base has a diameter of 100 mm and can support up to 1.5 kg.

Flat design and IP 65 rating

The unit measures 116 x 12 x 175 mm and, with a base area of around 200 square centimetres, sits compactly on the table. The IP 65 rating in accordance with DIN EN 60529 means it is dust-tight and protected against water jets. The housing and base are made of chemically resistant materials, whilst a non-slip base keeps the device in place. The unit’s power consumption is 5 W, the motor power is 3 W, and the mains connection ranges from 100 to 240 V at 50/60 Hz. The permissible ambient temperature is between 5 and 40 °C.

Automatic direction of rotation change

The lab disc can automatically reverse the direction of rotation every 30 seconds. According to the manufacturer, this improves the mixing of the medium. Stir bars may be up to 25 mm long. One stirring point is provided. There is no heating element, temperature sensor or timer. The unit only stirs and is therefore the compact entry-level solution for applications at room temperature.

Suitable stirring bars and accessories

IKA supplies PTFE-coated stir bars for magnetic stirrers in the following shapes: round, elliptical, cross, Trika, power and with a central sliding ring, as well as a glass stir bar. For this unit, the stir bars must not exceed 25 mm in length; therefore, only the shorter sizes from the respective ranges are suitable. Further accessories include the BC 1000 beaker lid and the RSE stir bar remover.

When a larger model is advisable

For stirring volumes exceeding 0.8 l, the C-MAG MS 4, with a capacity of up to 5 l, is the next step up; the C-MAG MS 7 stirs up to 10 l over an area of 180 x 180 mm. For those who also need to heat the mixture, the RCT basic is a heated magnetic stirrer suitable for volumes of up to 20 l.
