If you’re preparing five litres of buffer solution, you won’t need either a hotplate or an interface. What is important is a drive that runs smoothly and a base on which the vessel stands securely. The IKA C-MAG MS 4 is a magnetic stirrer without a heating function; it stirs up to 5 l of water at 100 to 1500 rpm and can support up to 7.5 kg. Measuring 150 x 105 x 260 mm and weighing 2.716 kg, it can still be accommodated even on a full laboratory bench.
Glass-ceramic and recessed control panel
The work surface is made of glass-ceramic, which, according to IKA, offers excellent chemical resistance. It measures 100 x 100 mm, so vessels with a base up to this edge length stand completely flat on it. The control panel is set back from the hob so that any spilt liquid does not come into direct contact with the controls. The housing has protection class IP 21 in accordance with DIN EN 60529. There is no heating element. After one hour at maximum speed and a room temperature of 22 °C, the plate heats up by approximately 2 K.
Speed and stirring volume
The speed is adjusted via a scale from 0 to 6 and ranges between 100 and 1500 rpm. The motor has a power output of 1.5 W and rotates anti-clockwise. Up to 5 l of water can be stirred, and the plate has a maximum load capacity of 7.5 kg. For larger vessel bases or batches of around 10 l, the C-MAG MS 7 with a 180 x 180 mm plate is available; for 15 l, the C-MAG MS 10 is available.

Installation, Disposal and Warranty
The appliance must be placed on a level, dry surface at a temperature of 5 to 40 °C and a relative humidity of no more than 80 per cent. At the end of its service life, as an electrical appliance, it must be disposed of via the separate collection scheme for waste electrical equipment. IKA manufacturer’s warranty: 2 years, extended to 3 years upon registration at ika.com/register within 90 days of purchase.
