Briefly spinning down a PCR plate before it goes into thermocycling, or freeing a reaction tube of air bubbles after pipetting: a large benchtop centrifuge with program selection is not worth it for such tasks lasting a few seconds. The IKA mini G is built for exactly this moment at the workstation. With a fixed speed of 6000 rpm and a relative centrifugal force of 2000 G, it covers the classic quick spin for microtubes and PCR strips, without a speed having to be set before every run.

Automatic lid and timer for the short run

The lid opens automatically at the push of a button, which makes it easier to load and remove the tubes quickly between two work steps. For runs of a defined duration, a digital timer from 1 to 99 minutes is available, and the set time counts down on a 7-segment LED display. A quick stop brakes the rotor rapidly if required instead of letting it coast to a halt. With a permissible duty cycle of 100 per cent, consecutive runs are possible without a cooling pause, and at 48 dB(A) the mini G stays so quiet that it can run right next to other work steps.

Tool-free rotor change for two sample types

Two rotors are included in the scope of delivery and can be swapped without tools. The first is designed for 8 tubes of 2 mL volume, and three supplied adapter sets for 0.5, 0.4 and 0.2 mL tubes also fit into this rotor and thus extend the range of tubes without buying a separate rotor. The second rotor is built for PCR strips and holds 4 strips of 8 positions each, i.e. 32 positions in one run. The permissible density of the samples is 1.2 kg per dm³, and the kinetic energy is limited to a maximum of 20 Nm.

Typical applications

As a quick-spin centrifuge for the workstation, the mini G covers applications that do not require extremely high speeds:

  • Briefly spinning down PCR reactions and PCR reaction strips before thermocycling
  • Microfiltration and cell separation in molecular biology sample preparation
  • Collecting liquid at the bottom of the tube after pipetting or vortexing
  • Routine quick spin of standard reaction tubes of 1.5 or 2 mL volume

Scope of delivery

  • 1 x IKA mini G basic unit
  • 1 x rotor for 8 x 1.5/2.0 mL tubes
  • 1 x rotor for 4 x 8 x 0.2 mL PCR strips (32 positions)
  • 1 x adapter set for 8 x 0.5 mL tubes (8 pieces)
  • 1 x adapter set for 8 x 0.4 mL tubes (8 pieces)
  • 1 x adapter set for 8 x 0.2 mL tubes (8 pieces)

Use and care

The mini G is designed for operation at 5 to 40 °C and a relative humidity of up to 80 per cent, and protection class IP 30 protects against larger foreign bodies but not against splash water. The connection is to 100 to 240 V at 50 to 60 Hz, and internally the device works with a DC voltage of 24 V at 500 mA current consumption, which covers different mains voltages without a separate voltage converter. The supplied protective cover stays over the rotor during centrifugation, and for care it is sufficient to wipe the rotor and housing regularly, especially after contact with samples. At the end of its service life, the mini G belongs in the separate collection of waste electrical equipment as a small electrical appliance and not in household waste.

Individual requirements & procurement service

Factory calibration certificates, qualification documents and IQ/OQ documentation are available for the mini G, for example for laboratories with documented equipment testing. As an accessory, IKA also offers an additional rotor for 4 HPLC vials. If you also mix before centrifuging, the IKA lab dancer for individual tubes or the IKA Vortex 2 for larger series is the suitable addition for the workstation. Do you need one of the certificates, an additional rotor or support in choosing for your specific application? Via our procurement service, LT Laborhandel supports you with procurement and configuration. The Centrifuges category offers an overview of further centrifuge models.

Frequently asked questions

Can the centrifugation time be set?
Yes, via the digital timer from 1 to 99 minutes with 7-segment LED display. The speed itself is fixed at 6000 rpm and cannot be changed.

How many PCR positions does the second rotor offer?
The PCR rotor holds 4 strips of 8 positions each, i.e. 32 positions in one run.

How is the rotor changed?
Without tools: the lid opens automatically at the push of a button, after which the rotor can be swapped by hand for the second rotor.

Which tubes is the first rotor designed for?
For 8 tubes of 2 mL volume. Three supplied adapter sets additionally extend it to 0.5, 0.4 and 0.2 mL tubes.
