The IKA MT 100 single-use grinding beakers apply the process principle of high-speed impact and percussion comminution to a significantly increased working volume of 100 ml. A solid stainless-steel beater is permanently integrated at the geometric centre of the chamber. Driven by the magnetic coupling of the IKA Tube Mill base station at up to 25,000 revolutions per minute, this rotor transfers immense kinetic energy to the solids. The enlarged chamber geometry creates enhanced three-dimensional flow turbulence, which continuously circulates the material into the impact zone. The resulting shock waves overcome the molecular binding forces of the sample and transform it into an analytically homogeneous, fine-powdered matrix.

Polymer physics and thermomechanical integrity

The high-speed comminution of extremely hard samples in larger batches induces a significantly increased thermodynamic load (exothermic reaction) due to friction and massive wall collisions. The MT 100 grinding jars are manufactured from high-performance thermoplastic polymers that exhibit extreme torsional stiffness and structural ballistic impact resistance. This specific polymer matrix is physically engineered to withstand the massive kinetic impacts of large rock fragments or pellets without undergoing plastic deformation (fracture prevention). At the same time, the material integrity ensures that, even under the increased thermal load of the 100-ml volume, no interfering plasticisers or polymer particles are released into the analytical matrix.

Aerosol containment and elimination of carry-over in high-throughput applications

When grinding toxic, biohazardous or highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in large quantities in a batch process, preventing uncontrolled aerosol formation is an absolute safety priority. The MT 100 grinding beaker functions as a hermetically sealed containment system. The process takes place in a completely enclosed atmosphere, thereby physically protecting the user from respirable fine dust.
