IKA MultiDrive BL 2000.1 Standard mixing blade, stainless steel, 0020023169

Product information "IKA MultiDrive BL 2000.1 Standard mixing blade, stainless steel, 0020023169"

Kinetics of wet comminution and cell suspension

In biological sample preparation, the extraction of sensitive phytochemicals and food analysis, the physical disruption of soft, water-containing or extremely fibrous tissue structures is the fundamental first step in the process. The IKA MultiDrive BL 2000.1 Standard Mixing Blade is the core fluid-mechanical tool for precisely these wet grinding and mixing processes. Driven by the MultiDrive base station at speeds of up to 30,000 revolutions per minute, the sharp, geometrically optimised blade shears through cellular matrices using massive mechanical shear forces. This continuous cutting process transforms coarse, heterogeneous samples into absolutely homogeneous, flowable suspensions, which are essential for subsequent chromatographic or spectroscopic analysis.

Macroscopic fluid dynamics in the blender vessel

Breaking down tough plant fibres or muscle tissue requires more than just a high rotational speed; it requires controlled rheology within the sample vessel. The fluid-dynamic architecture of the crossed blades of the BL 2000.1 cutter is designed to maintain strong axial and radial circulation (vortex) within the large-volume BL 2000 measuring vessel. The medium is continuously drawn from the periphery into the area of extreme turbulence (shear zone) created by the rotating blades. This flow profile prevents light sample fractions from floating to the surface, breaks down phase separations and guarantees absolute particle homogeneity throughout the entire 2000-ml batch volume without any process-related dead zones.

Material integrity and GLP-compliant hygiene

When extracting active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) or conducting toxicological tests, absolute freedom from cross-contamination (carry-over prevention) is essential. The entire mixing blade is made from solid, highly corrosion-resistant stainless steel. It easily withstands the oxidative effects of aqueous solutions, acidic plant extracts and aggressive cleaning agents. The robust, single-material design avoids complex, hard-to-reach undercuts and enables complete thermal sterilisation in an autoclave in accordance with the strictest GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) guidelines.

Custom requirements & accessories

The BL 2000.1 blade is the standard wear part for wet comminution. During the continuous processing of extremely hard, abrasive sample matrices (such as bone tissue or frozen agricultural products), the sharpness of the stainless steel blade is subject to natural mechanical wear. For laboratories with high sample throughput, it is metrologically advisable to always keep replacement blades in stock to ensure the long-term reproducibility of the particle size distribution.
