IKA MultiDrive DI 2000 T dispersion vessel with temperature sensor, 2000 ml, 0025003960

Product information "IKA MultiDrive DI 2000 T dispersion vessel with temperature sensor, 2000 ml, 0025003960"

Thermodynamic process control in high-shear dispersion

In the demanding fields of pharmaceutical formulation, cosmetic product development and chemical synthesis, the production of ultra-fine, long-term stable emulsions and suspensions is a thermodynamic stress test. The enormous amount of kinetic energy required to break up droplets or agglomerates inevitably leads to a massive rise in temperature within the medium due to molecular friction. For heat-labile ingredients such as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), sensitive proteins or volatile organic compounds (VOCs), this results in irreversible denaturation or thermal degradation. To completely eliminate this source of methodological error in large-volume batches, IKA has designed the highly specialised MultiDrive DI 2000 T dispersing vessel. The “T” in the product nomenclature stands for the integrated temperature sensor. This 2000-millilitre vessel transforms your IKA MultiDrive mill into a process-controlled, high-precision in-line homogeniser for thermally highly sensitive mixtures.

Fluid dynamics of the rotor-stator principle

In stark contrast to conventional mixing vessels (blender tubes), which operate with rotating blades that merely circulate and chop up the sample, the DI 2000 T is based on the highly complex rotor-stator principle. Inside the vessel, a solid stainless-steel rotor rotates at an extremely high peripheral speed within a stationary stator. The liquid medium is drawn axially into the dispersing head and forced radially through the microscopically fine slits in the stator. Within this extremely narrow shear gap, immense hydrodynamic shear forces, massive impact energy and cavitation act upon the sample. Liquid droplets (in emulsions) or solid particles (in suspensions) are broken down into tiny primary particle sizes within milliseconds, guaranteeing an absolutely homogeneous, reproducible and separation-resistant phase distribution in up to 2 litres of working volume.

Wireless RFID technology for seamless temperature monitoring

The technological heart of the DI 2000 T is the seamless communication between the dispersing vessel and the drive unit. A high-precision temperature sensor is integrated into the solid base of the vessel, continuously measuring the thermal load on the sample directly within the flow zone. Data transmission to the essential IKA MultiDrive control is carried out entirely contactlessly via wear-free RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) technology. Mechanical plug connections, which could corrode during intensive wet cleaning, are completely eliminated. You can set a strict, material-specific temperature limit via the drive unit. When this critical thermal threshold is reached, the electronics proactively reduce the speed or halt the dispersion process long before any thermal damage can occur to your sample.

GLP-compliant hygiene and material integrity

When processing suspensions containing proteins or high levels of fat, the risk of cross-contamination (carry-over) is extremely high. The DI 2000 T is designed for thorough, GLP-compliant (Good Laboratory Practice) deep cleaning. The highly complex rotor-stator assembly, made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel, can be completely dismantled in just a few simple steps without the need for tools, allowing hidden biofilms or product residues in the shear gap to be removed completely. The large-volume housing is made of extremely impact-resistant and chemical-resistant PCTG plastic. This not only allows for constant visual monitoring of flow turbulence but, together with all components in contact with the medium, is fully dishwasher-safe.

Individual requirements & accessories

The DI 2000 T’s high-precision thermal protection functions can only be used in conjunction with the premium IKA MultiDrive control drive unit, as the ‘basic’ version cannot process RFID signals. If you need to cut up coarse tissue or grind dry solids rather than emulsions, we advise against using the rotor-stator principle and instead recommend the IKA MultiDrive MI (grinding chambers) or BL (blender) series. Our procurement service, which specialises in process engineering, will be happy to configure the physically optimal system for your specific sample matrices.
