Maximum mechanical resilience thanks to the SBS steel ball bearing

The key material and design feature of the “SBS” model series (Steel Ball Bearing System) is the elimination of the traditional, delicate tip bearing. Instead, this viscometer features a high-precision, extremely robust steel ball bearing system. In the demanding day-to-day laboratory environment and when handling high sample volumes in multi-user operations, this mechanical system architecture effectively protects the instrument from damage caused by transverse forces, such as those that can arise when heavy spindles are rapidly rotated in and out. This minimises the risk of transient axial errors, which significantly extends the service life of the measuring head and ensures long-term calibration stability.

Prevention of channeling via the motorised HELIPATH drive

The process-engineering foundation for the investigation of non-flowing or viscoelastic phases is provided by the motorised HELIPATH stand system included in the package. With structurally viscous or thixotropic samples, standard rotating spindles tend, during steady-state operation, to cut a gap in the medium (known as channeling). This leads to a transient loss of contact with the medium and distorts the measurement data. The HELIPATH drive reliably eliminates this phenomenon by moving the viscometer head continuously and slowly up and down vertically during the measurement cycle. The rotating T-spindle thereby traces a three-dimensional helix (screw line) and constantly cuts into fresh, undisturbed sample material.

Intelligent measurement data analysis and full GLP compliance

The ROTAVISC me-vi’s electronic control system covers the medium viscosity range continuously and guarantees a measurement accuracy of plus/minus 1 per cent of the full measurement range, with a reproducibility of plus/minus 0.2 per cent. A high-contrast, large 4.3-inch TFT colour display visualises all transient rheological data as well as the torque trend in real time. As the viscosity of fluid-mechanical systems is strongly influenced by temperature, the integrated PT1000 sensor ensures seamless thermodynamic monitoring directly within the medium. Via the integrated USB and RS232 interfaces, the entire system can be fully digitised, enabling legally compliant, GLP-compliant documentation of all quality processes.
