The IKA RV 10 digital V Starter Solution is a comprehensive distillation system that combines the RV 10 digital rotary evaporator with precisely matched peripheral equipment for vacuum and cooling. This setup addresses the issue of component compatibility by supplying the evaporator, vacuum pump (VACSTAR digital) and recirculating chiller (RC 2 lite) in a ready-to-use configuration. The system is primarily suited to reproducible standard distillations in the laboratory, where space-saving and process reliability are key priorities.

Evaporator architecture and safety features

At the heart of the system is the RV 10 digital with a vertical glass assembly (cooling surface area 1500 cm²). The motorised lift is equipped with a ‘Safety-Stop’ function: in the event of a power cut, the evaporator flask is automatically raised out of the heating bath to prevent the medium from overheating or the system running dry. The universal heating bath (water/oil) is controllable up to 180 °C and communicates with the drive unit via an infrared interface, which prevents the bath temperature from rising uncontrollably.

Vacuum and cooling management

Unlike modular individual set-ups, this solution includes the VACSTAR digital vacuum pump, which delivers a pumping speed of 22 l/min at a final vacuum of 2 mbar. The pump is complemented by the compact RC 2 lite recirculating chiller, which, with a cooling capacity of 400 watts, ensures a constant condensation temperature and reduces water consumption at the chiller to zero. This enables autonomous operation independent of the mains water supply.

Data interfaces and automation

RS 232 interfaces are provided on both the heating bath and the drive unit for process monitoring and remote control. This allows integration with laboratory software (e.g. IKA labworldsoft) for the documentation of temperature and speed curves.
