A single grain is often sufficient as a sample for seed testing, and the IKA Tube Mill Control Agriculture Solution has been designed precisely for this purpose. The set combines the Tube Mill control batch mill with ten patented MT 40.10 disposable grinding cups, specially configured by IKA for the agricultural industry and regulatory authorities in the health and food sectors. Even the smallest sample quantities, from as little as 1 gramme, roughly the size of a maize grain, can be ground without cross-contamination between batches. Anyone who regularly tests large numbers of individual samples from different consignments or fields will find that this set saves them the hassle of cleaning between samples as well as the need to purchase grinding beakers separately.
Ten disposable beakers for routine analysis
The drive unit corresponds to the standard Tube Mill Control model and accommodates grinding jars up to 40 ml; it processes hard, brittle and dry materials up to Mohs hardness 5 and a maximum feed particle size of 10 mm. The set includes ten MT 40.10 disposable grinding jars; each jar is disposed of after use and is not cleaned. For applications without a risk of cross-contamination, a reusable MMT 40.1 beaker is also included. The grinding beakers and cover are made of transparent plastic, which allows for visual inspection during the grinding process, even with very small sample quantities such as a single grain.
Same drive unit as the individual units in the series
Technically, the drive unit is identical to the separately available Tube Mill Control: speed range 5,000 to 25,000 rpm with a deviation of ±2 per cent, a multilingual OLED display, a timer ranging from 5 seconds to 3 minutes, and a USB-B interface for experiment control and documentation. The mill only starts when the beaker is closed and correctly locked; a safety shut-off prevents it from starting if the beaker is missing or incorrectly closed. Test conditions can be programmed and saved, which is a clear advantage in regulatory interlaboratory tests involving many comparable samples, as the speed and grinding time do not need to be reset for each individual sample.
