Product information "Kern ADB 100-4 analytical balance, 120 g / 0.0001 g, external calibration"
The Kern ADB 100-4 is an analytical balance with a weighing range of up to 120 grams and a readability of 0.0001 grams. It is calibrated externally using a test weight via the CAL calibration programme.
External calibration using the CAL programme
Accuracy can be set via the CAL calibration programme using an external calibration weight. According to the data sheet, the calibration points are at 100 grams or 120 grams, using a calibration weight of accuracy class E2. A calibration weight is not included in the scope of delivery and is available separately.
ADB or ADJ: two parallel calibration concepts
Kern offers both ADB and ADJ in parallel. The ADB 100-4 calibrates externally using a test weight via the CAL programme, whilst the ADJ 100-4 calibrates internally and automatically, without an external weight.
Accuracy and weighing technology
Reproducibility and linearity are 0.0002 grams and ± 0.0004 grams respectively; the balance operates with electromagnetic force compensation. The resolution is 1,200,000 scale divisions. Once the sample has been placed on the balance, the display stabilises within 4 seconds. According to Kern, a minimum sample weight of 400 milligrams is required for a measurement uncertainty of 0.1 per cent at k=2; the warm-up time before the first weighing is 8 hours.
Piece-counting function
The ADB 100-4 also counts items. The minimum item weight is 10 milligrams under standard conditions and 1 milligram under laboratory conditions. This makes the balance suitable for use as a counting balance even for very light individual items. The tare range extends up to 120 grams.
Glass draught shield and levelling
The large glass draught shield has three sliding doors for access to the sample; its internal dimensions are 170 x 160 x 205 millimetres, and its external dimensions are 175 x 175 x 230 millimetres. The plastic housing has external dimensions of 230 x 310 x 330 millimetres. A spirit level and adjustable screw feet are included as standard and help to level the balance precisely. The stainless steel weighing plate has a diameter of 90 millimetres.
Weighing units and display
In addition to grams, the ADB 100-4 also displays carats, pounds and ounces. In carat mode, the weighing range extends up to 600 carats, with a readability of 0.001 carats. The backlit display has a digit height of 16 millimetres; operation is via six buttons on the control panel.
Environmental conditions
Permissible operating conditions according to Kern: 10 to 30 degrees Celsius, 20 to 85 per cent relative humidity, non-condensing.
Interface and power supply
As standard, the balance features an RS-232 interface for data transfer to a PC, printer or other peripherals. The scope of delivery includes a mains adaptor with interchangeable plugs for EU, UK and US sockets; the input voltage is 100 to 240 volts AC (50/60 hertz).
Typical applications
With a weighing range of 120 grams and a readability of 0.0001 grams, the ADB 100-4 is designed for weighing tasks where accuracy to a tenth of a milligram is required.
- Analytical weighing in laboratories and quality control
- Formulation and sample preparation
- Counting very light individual items
- Weighing in carats, pounds or ounces
- Routine applications in research and education
Frequently asked questions about the ADB 100-4
Is the ADB 100-4 suitable for calibration?
There is no known calibration option or EU type examination certificate for the ADB 100-4. An accredited calibration (DAkkS, item no. 963-101) can be ordered separately.
What is the difference between the ADB 100-4 and the ADJ 100-4?
Kern markets the ADB and ADJ models in parallel. The ADB 100-4 is calibrated externally using a test weight via the CAL programme, whilst the ADJ 100-4 is calibrated internally and automatically.
Is a test weight included in the scope of delivery?
No, an external test weight is not included but is available separately if required.
What units of measurement does the balance display?
Grams, carats, pounds and ounces.
