Kern PFB 6000-1 Compact Laboratory Balance, 6,000 g / 0.1 g, checkweighing function

Product information "Kern PFB 6000-1 Compact Laboratory Balance, 6,000 g / 0.1 g, checkweighing function"

The Kern PFB 6000-1 is a compact laboratory balance with a weighing range of up to 6,000 grams and a readability of 0.1 grams. The current series features a checkweighing function: a visual and audible signal indicates when a specified weight tolerance has been reached, for example during portioning, dosing or sorting.

Checkweighing and operating philosophy

All main functions have their own button on the control panel; this is the standard KERN operating philosophy. A rising bar graph display shows how much of the weighing range is still available up to the 6,000-gram limit. For tolerance weighing, checkweighing can be activated; the audible and visual signal assists with portioning, dosing or sorting larger quantities.

Accuracy and weighing technology

Reproducibility and readability are both 0.1 grammes, whilst linearity is ± 0.2 grammes. The balance operates using a strain gauge system and has a resolution of 60,000 divisions. Once the sample is placed on the balance, the reading stabilises within 2 seconds. According to Kern, a minimum sample weight of 200 grams is required to achieve a measurement uncertainty of 0.1 per cent at k=2; the warm-up time before the first weighing is 120 minutes.

Piece-counting function

The PFB 6000-1 also counts items. The minimum item weight is 2 grams under standard conditions and 200 milligrams under laboratory conditions.

External calibration

The PFB 6000-1 is calibrated externally; selectable calibration points are 2 kilogrammes, 4 kilogrammes or 6 kilogrammes. Kern recommends a calibration weight of 6 kilograms in accuracy class F2. A DAkkS calibration certificate (item no. 963-128) is available separately if required, together with a confirmation of the manufacturer’s specification (item no. 969-517) on request.

Housing, weighing pan and display

The weighing plate measures 190 x 180 millimetres and is made of stainless steel. The plastic housing has external dimensions of 210 x 315 x 90 millimetres. The display does not have its own IP rating; the aluminium load cell is silicone-coated to IP65. A spirit level and adjustable screw feet are included and assist with levelling. The backlit display shows digits 21 millimetres high. The scale has a net weight of 2.0 kilograms.

Mains power and battery

The scope of delivery includes a mains adaptor with interchangeable plugs for EU, UK, US and Swiss sockets; the input voltage is 100 to 240 volts (50/60 hertz). A rechargeable battery can also be ordered ex-works (item no. EWJ-A06). With the backlight switched off, it lasts for up to 72 hours and recharges in 6.5 hours.

Interfaces

The PFB 6000-1 comes with an RS-232 interface as standard. A Bluetooth interface can be ordered ex-works (item no. PFB-A10); it supports Bluetooth 2.0 and 4.0 for connection to a PC, printer or other peripherals.

Differences from other Kern compact balances

Those requiring a smaller weighing range with finer readability will find the Kern PCB 1000-2, a compact laboratory balance with a 1,200-gram weighing range and 0.01-gram readability. The PFB 6000-1, on the other hand, covers a larger weighing range up to 6,000 grams, with a readability of 0.1 grams.

Typical applications

With a weighing range of 6,000 grams and a readability of 0.1 grams, the PFB 6000-1 covers laboratory weighing tasks in the medium weight range, from sample preparation to formulation weighing.

  • Laboratory weighing up to 6 kilograms
  • Portioning and dosing with checkweighing
  • Piece counting, for example of small parts or consumables
  • Formulation and sample weighing
  • Quality control in industry and research

Frequently asked questions about the PFB 6000-1

Is the balance suitable for verification?

There is no known calibration option or EU type examination certificate for the PFB 6000-1. An accredited calibration (DAkkS, item no. 963-128) can be ordered separately.

How is the balance adjusted?

Externally; selectable adjustment points are 2, 4 or 6 kilograms. Kern recommends a 6-kilogram adjustment weight of class F2.

What does the checkweighing function do?

It signals with a visual and audible alert when the weight reaches a pre-set tolerance range, which aids in portioning, dosing or sorting.

Can the scale be connected wirelessly?

Yes, as standard, with a Bluetooth interface (item no. PFB-A10) for Bluetooth 2.0 and 4.0. The scale comes with an RS-232 interface as standard.
