Trinocular tube: Ready for the digital world

The standout feature of the OBE 132 is its trinocular microscope head. In addition to the two eyepieces for stereoscopic viewing, this model features a third, vertical optical path. This allows for the permanent connection of a microscope camera (C-mount adapter available separately). This is of inestimable value, particularly in teaching or training: the live image can be transmitted to a monitor, projector or PC, enabling an entire group to view and discuss the specimen at the same time. Documenting findings or creating training materials thus becomes child’s play.

The tube itself is designed as an innovative ‘butterfly’ tube. This not only allows for quick adjustment of the interpupillary distance but also ensures an ideal viewing angle (30° tilt), which effectively prevents neck pain during prolonged use. The head can also be rotated through 360°.

High-performance optics and illumination

The KERN OBE 132 is equipped with four high-quality, achromatic objectives (4x, 10x, 40x and 100x). In combination with the HWF 10x/18 mm wide-field eyepieces, you can achieve a magnification range from 40x to 1000x. The 100x objective is designed for oil immersion (immersion oil required), enabling the observation of the finest structures, such as bacteria or details in blood smears. To prevent damage, both the 40x and 100x objectives are mounted on spring-loaded mounts.

Illumination is provided by a modern, high-performance 3W LED. This ensures excellent, bright illumination of the specimen at a colour temperature similar to daylight. A key advantage of LED technology over halogen lamps is its long service life and the absence of heat generation – your samples are not ‘cooked’, which is particularly important when examining living organisms. The brightness is, of course, infinitely adjustable.

Precise mechanics and well-designed features

The full-featured mechanical cross-table ensures the precise positioning of your specimens. Using the ergonomically positioned, coaxial control knobs (for the x and y axes), you can move the specimen with millimetre precision without having to take your eyes off the eyepieces. Focusing is also achieved via a coaxial coarse and fine focus control on both sides, which allows for rapid yet highly precise focusing.

Beneath the stage is a height-adjustable Abbe condenser (N.A. 1.25) with an iris diaphragm. This allows you to optimise the light path using Köhler illumination (within a fixed frame) and to perfectly adjust the contrast to the specimen in question. Another practical feature for everyday laboratory use: a large storage compartment is integrated into the rear of the unit. The mains cable can be stowed away quickly and securely here after use – this keeps the cabinet tidy and prevents cable tangles during transport.
