Kern PCB 200-3 Compact Laboratory Balance, 200 g / 0.001 g, IoT Line

Product information "Kern PCB 200-3 Compact Laboratory Balance, 200 g / 0.001 g, IoT Line"

The Kern PCB 200-3 weighs up to 200 g and displays readings to 0.001 g, i.e. to the nearest milligram. It is part of the IoT range of Kern compact scales. Its data is transmitted via the Kern Universal Port (KUP), to which interface adaptors can be connected.

One milligram readability in a compact housing

Repeatability and readability are both 0.001 g, whilst linearity is ± 0.005 g. Under laboratory conditions, the reading stabilises within 3 seconds after placing the sample on the balance; the warm-up time before the first weighing is 120 minutes. Kern specifies the minimum weight according to USP as 2 g. The weighing pan has a diameter of 82 mm and is made of plastic with a conductive coating. A ring-shaped draught shield with a weighing chamber 90 mm in diameter and 40 mm high is included as standard. An anti-shock system is located between the weighing pan and the load cell, which dampens vibrations during weighing.

Connection via the Kern Universal Port

The PCB 200-3 comes with the KUP slot as standard. Depending on requirements, this can accommodate an adapter for RS-232 (KUP-01, 1.5 m cable), USB device (KUP-03, 1.5 m cable), Ethernet (KUP-04), Wi-Fi (KUP-05) or Bluetooth BLE 4.0 (KUP-06). With the KUP-13 extension box, up to three adapters can be used simultaneously on a single scale. Weighing data is transmitted via the adapters to a network, PC, smartphone, tablet, laptop or printer; conversely, control commands and data entries can be sent to the balance. The Kern Communication Protocol (KCP) also enables data retrieval and remote control via external control units or computers.

Weighing functions in everyday use

The PRE-TARE function subtracts a known container weight in advance. With the recipe function, the ingredients of a mixture are weighed in one after the other; the total weight of all ingredients can be displayed for checking. When weighing within a tolerance range (checkweighing), a visual signal assists with portioning, dosing and sorting; the optional CFS-A03 signal lamp provides additional visual confirmation of tolerance weighing. The weighing unit is freely programmable, for example for thread length in g/m or paper weight in g/m². For piece counting, the minimum piece weight is 20 mg, and 2 mg under laboratory conditions; the counting resolution is 100,000.

Adjustment and test weights

The balance is adjusted using an external weight. Kern recommends a 200 g adjustment weight of class F1. The matching single weight is 326-08 (F1, 200 g, Eco-Form, polished stainless steel) and the Safety Set 315-208-304 containing 10 g (F2) and 200 g (F1) weights. A DAkkS calibration certificate is available under item no. 963-127.

Power supply: batteries, mains adaptor or rechargeable battery

The balance runs on four AA batteries (1.5 V) or via a mains adaptor rated at 100 to 240 V and 50/60 Hz. An internal rechargeable battery is optional; it takes 8 hours to charge. Kern specifies an operating time of 20 hours, or 48 hours with the backlight switched off. Mains adaptors for sockets in the EU, the UK, the USA and Switzerland are included in the Scope of delivery.

Position within the PCB series

The Kern PCB 300-3 features the same 82 mm diameter weighing plate, with a weighing range of 360 g and a readability of 0.001 g. For those who require a 300 g weighing range with a readability of 0.01 g, the Kern PCB 300-2 offers a stainless steel weighing plate with a diameter of 105 mm. The PCB 200-3 has the smallest weighing range of these three, but shares the readability of 0.001 g with the PCB 300-3.

Typical applications

With a readability of 0.001 g and a weighing range of 200 g, the PCB 200-3 is suitable for weighing small quantities. The scale’s functions make it suitable for the following applications:

  • Weighing small sample quantities up to 200 g
  • Weighing in mixture components according to a recipe
  • Portioning and dosing within a tolerance range
  • Counting small parts with a unit weight from 20 mg
  • Transfer of measured values to a PC, network or printer via a KUP adapter

Frequently asked questions

What interfaces does the PCB 200-3 have? The KUP slot is fitted as standard. RS-232, USB device, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth BLE 4.0 are available as plug-in KUP adapters; up to three can be used simultaneously via the KUP-13 extension box.

How is the balance calibrated? Using an external weight. Kern recommends a 200 g Class F1 weight.

Does the balance work without a mains socket? Yes, with four AA batteries or with the optional internal rechargeable battery.

What is the minimum weight of a sample? The minimum weight according to USP is 2 g. For piece counting, the minimum piece weight is 20 mg; under laboratory conditions, it is 2 mg.
