Product information "Kern PCB 300-3 Compact Laboratory Balance, 360 g / 0.001 g, Recipe Function"
Despite the number in its name, the Kern PCB 300-3 has a weighing range of 360 g. It displays readings to 0.001 g, and the weighing plate has a diameter of 82 mm. The balance is part of Kern’s IoT range.
Subtracting container weight, weighing ingredients
The PRE-TARE function subtracts a known container weight in advance, which is useful for checking fill quantities. The recipe function weighs the ingredients of a mixture one after the other and displays the total weight of all ingredients for verification. If you wish to work in a different unit, you can freely programme the weighing unit, for example for thread length in g/m or paper weight in g/m². Weighing with a tolerance range (checkweighing) uses a visual signal to indicate whether the target weight has been reached during portioning, dosing or sorting.
Weighing data and configuration
Reproducibility and readability are both 0.001 g, with linearity of ± 0.005 g. The reading stabilises under laboratory conditions after 3 seconds; the balance requires a warm-up time of 120 minutes before the first weighing. The minimum weight according to USP is 4 g. An anti-shock system between the weighing pan and the load cell dampens vibrations, and a ring-shaped draught shield (weighing chamber Ø 90 mm, height 40 mm) is included as standard. The weighing plate is made of conductive-coated plastic; the housing is also made of plastic. A spirit level and rotatable screw feet assist with levelling.
Piece counting
When counting small parts, a minimum piece weight of 20 mg is sufficient; under laboratory conditions, this is 2 mg. The counting resolution is 180,000.
Data to PC, printer or network
The KUP slot accommodates the plug-in adaptors KUP-01 (RS-232), KUP-03 (USB device), KUP-04 (Ethernet), KUP-05 (Wi-Fi) and KUP-06 (Bluetooth BLE 4.0). The KUP-13 extension box distributes signals from up to three adapters to a single balance. The Kern Communication Protocol (KCP) enables data retrieval and remote control via a computer or other control devices.
Calibration
Calibration is carried out externally; Kern recommends a 200 g F1-class weight. Suitable for this are the single weight 326-08 (F1, 200 g, Eco-Form, polished stainless steel) and the Safety Set 315-208-205, containing one 20 g weight (F1) and one 200 g weight (F1). DAkkS calibration can be ordered under item no. 963-127.
Installation location and power supply
The balance weighs 0.85 kg net and operates at ambient temperatures ranging from -10 °C to 40 °C and up to 80 per cent relative humidity. It runs on four AA batteries or via a mains adaptor rated for 100 to 240 V. An internal rechargeable battery is available as an option (charging time 8 hours). Kern specifies an operating time of 20 hours; with the backlight switched off, this increases to 48 hours.
Typical applications
- Weighing ingredients for recipes with multiple components up to 360 g
- Weighing into containers with a known tare weight (PRE-TARE)
- Portioning and dosing with tolerance signal
- Counting light parts from 20 mg
- Display in custom units, such as g/m or g/m²
The Kern PCB 200-3 is available with the same platform but a 200 g weighing range. The Kern PCB 300-2 features a 105 mm diameter stainless steel platform with a readability of 0.01 g.
