Product information "LAUDA Alpha A 12 Heating Thermostat, 25 to 100 °C, 8 to 12-litre Bath, L000620"
For day-to-day laboratory work involving several samples or larger vessels at the same time, a bath designed for individual test tubes is often insufficient. With a bath volume of 8 to 12 l, the LAUDA Alpha A 12 falls squarely within the mid-range size category of the Alpha heating thermostats and covers the operating temperature range from 25 to 100 °C.
Bath vessel for multiple samples simultaneously
The stainless steel bath vessel measures 235 x 161 x 200 millimetres internally and holds between 8 and 12 l of temperature-controlled liquid, enough space to immerse several beakers, flasks or a sample rack at the same time. The complete unit measures 270 x 332 x 420 millimetres and weighs approximately 8 kilograms.
Display and control
Operation is via three buttons and a clear menu system; a single-line LED display shows the actual or setpoint value. The fully electronic, continuous controller maintains the temperature with a stability of ± 0.05 K across the entire operating temperature range of 25 to 100 °C, at a permissible ambient temperature of between 5 and 40 °C.
Circulation and safety features
The circulation pump delivers up to 15 l per minute at a maximum pressure of 0.2 bar and ensures even temperature distribution for bath volumes of 8 to 12 l; the flow rate can be reduced if required. A low-level and an over-temperature protection system monitor operation with non-flammable liquids and signal faults both audibly and visually. The maximum heating power is 1.5 kilowatts, and the current consumption is 7 amperes.
Typical applications
- Simultaneous temperature control of several samples, flasks or beakers in the same bath
- Viscosity and density measurements using standard test specimens in accordance with DIN 12876
- Material testing in which test specimens are kept at a constant temperature for extended periods
- Routine laboratory work in quality control and research with medium sample throughput
- Calibration work where several test specimens require the same bath temperature
Smaller or larger bath
If the bath volume of 8 to 12 l is insufficient, the Alpha A 24, with a capacity of 18 to 25 l, accommodates significantly larger batches. For smaller sample volumes, the more compact Alpha A 6, with a capacity of 2.5 to 5.5 l, is often sufficient. If you already have your own bath vessel, the Alpha A immersion circulator can be used instead. If the bath needs to be actively cooled below ambient temperature, the Alpha RA 12 refrigeration thermostat with compressor cooling is the suitable alternative.
Technical data in accordance with DIN 12876
The technical data for the Alpha A 12 are determined in accordance with DIN 12876, the standard for circulating thermostats and bath thermostats in laboratory and industrial applications. This makes it possible to compare specifications regarding temperature stability, heating power and pump capacity across different manufacturers, which is helpful for audits and interlaboratory tests in quality management.
Connection for different mains voltages
The Alpha A 12 operates as standard at 220 volts at 60 hertz or 230 volts at 50 hertz; it is connected via an angled Schuko plug. A version with a 115-volt mains plug (NEMA5-15P) is also available for export under a separate order number.
