LAUDA Alpha A Immersion Circulator, 25 to 100 °C, Bath Volume up to 50 L, L000618

Product information "LAUDA Alpha A Immersion Circulator, 25 to 100 °C, Bath Volume up to 50 L, L000618"

Not every laboratory or workshop needs a completely new bath thermostat with its own vessel. Often, a tank, basin or water bath is already available, but lacks a temperature control system. The LAUDA Alpha A is an immersion circulator designed precisely for this purpose: using the screw clamp supplied, it is attached to an existing bath vessel and regulates the temperature within it between 25 and 100 °C, without the need to purchase an additional vessel.

Clamp mounting on existing containers

The screw clamp fits wall thicknesses of up to 30 millimetres; the immersion depth should be at least 150 millimetres. This allows the Alpha A to be attached to basins, tanks or vats with a volume of up to 50 l without being permanently installed. Once used in one location, the device can just as easily be moved to another bath vessel, which saves time when tasks change or there are multiple locations within the operation.

Display and operation

A single-line LED display shows either the actual or the setpoint value; operation is via three buttons and a simple menu system. According to the data sheet, the fully electronic, continuous controller maintains the temperature with a stability of ± 0.05 K. The operating temperature range is from 25 to 100 °C, whilst the permissible ambient temperature is between 5 and 40 °C. This range is sufficient for most aqueous and oil-based temperature baths used in everyday laboratory work.

Pump and safety features

The built-in circulation pump delivers up to 15 l per minute at a maximum pressure of 0.2 bar; the flow rate can be reduced if a gentler flow is required in the bath. Low-level and over-temperature protection monitor operation with non-flammable liquids; in the event of a fault, the unit emits an audible and visual alarm. The maximum heating power is 1.5 kilowatts, the current consumption is 7 amperes, and the unit is connected via an angled Schuko plug.

Typical applications

  • Retrofitting temperature control to existing water baths, tanks or vats
  • Immersion baths in workshops and quality assurance, where a permanently installed bath thermostat is not practical
  • Flexible use with a variety of containers up to 50 l
  • Supplementing existing systems without the need to purchase a separate bath vessel
  • Retrofitting multiple containers at different locations using just a single drive unit

Heating thermostat with its own bath or cooling thermostat

If no suitable vessel is available, or if the thermostat is to be used permanently with its own bath, the LAUDA Alpha A 6, Alpha A 12 and Alpha A 24 heating thermostats are the more suitable choice. They come with their own stainless steel bath vessel in three sizes ranging from 2.5 to 25 l. The Alpha A is not designed for active cooling below ambient temperature; in this case, the Alpha RA 8 refrigeration thermostat with compressor cooling takes on this task.

Technical data in accordance with DIN 12876

The technical data for the Alpha A are determined in accordance with DIN 12876, the standard for recirculating thermostats and bath thermostats in laboratory and industrial applications. This makes it possible to compare specifications relating to temperature stability, heating power and pump capacity across different manufacturers, which is helpful during audits and interlaboratory tests in quality management.

Connection for different mains voltages

The Alpha A operates as standard at 220 volts at 60 hertz or 230 volts at 50 hertz, thus covering the standard European mains supplies; it is connected via an angled Schuko plug. For export, variants with 100-volt and 115-volt mains plugs (NEMA5-15P in each case) as well as with a British BS1363 plug are also available under separate order numbers.
