Anyone who, in the day-to-day running of a surgery or pharmacy, frequently just wants to quickly check whether a medicine compartment still has space available does not need to open the door every time and unnecessarily warm up the interior. The Liebherr HMTvh 1511 is a medicine refrigerator compliant with DIN 13277, with a net capacity of 102 litres and an insulated glass door, which makes precisely this everyday situation easier. The housing and frame are made of steel, whilst the inner compartment is made of easy-to-clean white plastic.

Insulated glass door for a quick overview

Unlike the structurally identical HMTvh 1501 with a steel door, the door of the HMTvh 1511 is made of insulated glass with a plastic frame. This allows the contents to be checked at a glance without opening the door and warming up the interior – a noticeable advantage when frequent visual checks are required in a practice setting. However, this additional transparency comes at the cost of efficiency: annual energy consumption, at 187 kWh, is noticeably higher than the 111 kWh of the steel-door version, whilst the external dimensions remain identical at 81.9 x 59.7 x 60.5 cm (H x W x D).

DIN 13277 and precise temperature control

The HMTvh 1511 meets the requirements of DIN 13277 for refrigeration units used in laboratories and for the storage of medicinal products. The setpoint temperature is fixed at +5 °C and is maintained with a temperature stability of ±2 °C, within a permissible ambient temperature range of +10 °C to +35 °C. If, in the event of a fault, the temperature falls below +2 °C, the integrated SafetyDevice function takes control and protects temperature-sensitive preparations from supercooling. In the event of a fault, the unit immediately issues a visual and audible warning; in the event of a power cut, the mains failure alarm is triggered immediately and is buffered for at least 12 hours.

Documentation and networking

An integrated USB data logger records the temperature history without interruption and creates its own alarm history, an important component for demonstrating compliance with storage standards under the Pharmacy Operating Regulations. Via the integrated, removable Wi-Fi/LAN interface, the HMTvh 1511 can be integrated into an existing practice or hospital network and monitored remotely. The unit is secured by an electronic lock with remote control; the antimicrobial handle with opening mechanism facilitates daily operation, whilst an LED light strip on the left ensures a clear view of the contents.

Interior layout and cleanroom compatibility

The HMTvh 1511 is fitted with four plastic-coated storage shelves, each with a load capacity of up to 45 kg. With a net volume of 102 litres and a gross volume of 137 litres, there is sufficient space for a substantial basic stock despite the compact design. According to the product data sheet, the unit is designed for cleanroom use in accordance with ISO EN 14644-1 and complies with GMP Class B; it is also certified to IEC 60068-3, IEC 61010-1, IEC 61010-2-011 and IEC 61326-1.

Compact benchtop unit from the Perfection series

Like the structurally identical HMTvh 1501, the HMTvh 1511 also forms part of Liebherr’s Perfection range for pharmaceutical cooling and is designed as a tabletop or under-counter unit, making it significantly more compact than the large floor-standing units in the HMFvh range. With external dimensions of just 81.9 x 59.7 x 60.5 cm, the unit fits on a worktop, under a counter or in a small adjoining room, without compromising on temperature monitoring and documentation. Two fixed feet ensure it stands securely on the chosen surface. Those who already operate a larger freestanding unit for their main stock in the same building can add the HMTvh 1511 as a second, compact unit for a reception or dispensing area, without having to compromise on the same regulatory compliance and monitoring technology.

Typical areas of application

The HMTvh 1511 is suitable wherever medicines need to be refrigerated in accordance with standards and, at the same time, checked frequently, without every visual inspection interrupting the cold chain. If, for example, staff at the reception of a doctor’s surgery or pharmacy need to check at a glance on a regular basis whether certain medicines are still in stock, the insulated glass door eliminates the need for repeated opening and closing, thereby maintaining a more consistent temperature inside the unit than would be the case with frequent door movement.
