Liebherr SFPvg laboratory freezer, Performance Series, -9 °C to -30 °C, 480 to 1,091 litres

Anyone who needs to store large quantities of samples, reagents or reference samples at sub-zero temperatures on a long-term basis in the laboratory will find it hard to do without a high-performance laboratory freezer. The Liebherr SFPvg laboratory freezer from the Performance Series – often referred to colloquially as a laboratory deep-freezer – is available in three sizes with net volumes ranging from 480 to 1,091 litres and covers a temperature range from -9 °C to -30 °C, with a temperature stability of ±5 °C and the natural refrigerant R 290. Whether for central laboratory storage, quality assurance or sample archiving within an institute: the model range can be selected to suit the required capacity.

Temperature stability of ±5 °C with NoFrost forced-air cooling

A dynamic cooling system with forced-air circulation and NoFrost technology ensures even temperature distribution throughout the entire interior, whilst demand-controlled defrost cycles remove moisture from the interior, preventing the formation of disruptive ice. The adjustable temperature range is from -9 °C to -30 °C; according to the Liebherr data sheet, the series guarantees a maximum temperature fluctuation of ±5 °C. The permissible ambient temperature is from +10 °C to +35 °C. In the event of a fault, visual and audible alarms provide immediate notification; a potential-free contact also allows connection to a building management system. In the event of a power cut, the mains failure alarm is triggered when mains power is restored. The natural refrigerant R 290 (propane) is used, with a charge of 94 or 104 g depending on the unit size.

Operation and networking of the Performance Series

The SFPvg is operated via a monochrome display with touch buttons, secured by a mechanical lock. The Wi-Fi/LAN interface can be retrofitted as an option and, if required, enables the unit to be connected to the SmartMonitoring digital monitoring solution via a SmartModule (Liebherr item no. 614526900), without the need for the basic configuration to be pre-assigned for this purpose. The connection cable is 3 m long; the rated current is 4.0 A at 220 to 240 V. Unlike the Perfection SFPvh series, the SFPvg does not include a data logger as standard, but instead offers a streamlined operating concept for laboratories that do not require comprehensive digital documentation of the cold chain.

Three sizes ranging from 480 to 1,091 litres

The most compact model, the SFPvg 6501, offers a net volume of 480 litres with four height-adjustable, plastic-coated shelving racks, each with a load capacity of 60 kg according to the data sheet and a maximum total load of 240 kg. The medium-sized model, the SFPvg 8401, has a capacity of 702 litres, also featuring four storage shelves and a maximum total load capacity of 240 kg. The largest model, the SFPvg 1402, offers a net volume of 1,091 litres, eight storage shelves and a maximum total load capacity of 480 kg; it is suitable for central laboratory storage facilities handling large volumes of samples or reagents. All three models are fitted with swivel castors: the SFPvg 1402 has five swivel castors, two of which have locking brakes; the SFPvg 6501 and 8401 have swivel castors with locking brakes at the front and fixed castors at the rear, so that even the larger units can be moved around the laboratory as required. On the largest model, the 1402, the door hinge is fixed in position – fixed on the left and fixed on the right; on the two more compact models, the 6501 and 8401, it is reversible.

Suitable for cleanrooms in accordance with ISO EN 14644-1 and GMP Class B

The inner chamber is constructed entirely from 1.4301/AISI 304 chrome-nickel steel, which is easy to clean and resistant to most chemicals commonly used in the laboratory. According to the data sheet, all three sizes are designed for cleanroom use in accordance with ISO EN 14644-1 Class 6 and comply with GMP Class B. In addition, the units are certified to IEC 60068-3, IEC 61010-1, IEC 61010-2-011 and IEC 61326-1, as well as Labgrade Energy Star. According to the Liebherr certification list, the SFPvg does not hold DIN 13277 certification; this is reserved for the Perfection series SFPvh. The sound power level is 60 dB(A).

Typical applications

The SFPvg laboratory freezer is suitable for any application where samples, reagents or reference samples need to be reliably stored at low temperatures, without the need for comprehensive digital documentation of the cold chain. If, for example, a large number of daily samples need to be frozen simultaneously at the end of a working day, the large 1,091-litre capacity provides sufficient space without the need to stack individual containers tightly together.
