Liebherr SFPvh laboratory freezer, Perfection series, DIN 13277, -9 °C to -35 °C, 480 to 1,091 litres

Anyone who needs to store samples, reagents or reference samples that are subject to documentation requirements at sub-zero temperatures on a long-term basis will find it almost impossible to do without standard-compliant frozen storage. The Liebherr SFPvh laboratory freezer from the Perfection series – often referred to colloquially as a laboratory deep-freezer – is certified to DIN 13277 and, with three sizes offering net volumes ranging from 480 to 1,091 litres, covers a temperature range from -9 °C to -35 °C. An integrated USB data logger and a built-in Wi-Fi/LAN interface ensure a fully traceable cold chain, whilst the energy consumption of none of the three sizes exceeds that of the Performance model SFPvg of the same size.

DIN 13277: standard-compliant freezer storage with documentation

All three sizes of the SFPvh are designed in accordance with DIN 13277 for laboratory and pharmacy refrigeration and freezer units, as per the Liebherr certification list. According to Liebherr, the standard describes the requirements and test specifications for refrigeration and freezer units used in laboratories and for the storage of medicinal products. This is complemented by an integrated USB data logger, which continuously records temperature trends, and an alarm history that allows past faults to be traced. In the event of a power cut, the power failure alarm is triggered immediately – not just when power is restored – and remains buffered for at least 12 hours, ensuring that even an outage overnight or at the weekend is reliably documented.

Ultra-efficient: never uses more energy than the Performance series

Liebherr’s product range claim ‘Ultra-efficient’ applies to the entire Perfection Series; in the case of the SFPvh, this can be clearly demonstrated by the consumption figures: the SFPvh 6501 consumes 702 kWh per year compared with 774 kWh for the SFPvg 6501, the SFPvh 8401 consumes 748 kWh compared with 870 kWh for the SFPvg 8401. For the largest model, the 1402, both series are on a par at 1,162 kWh per year. Those who take advantage of the additional documentation reliability offered by the Perfection series will therefore actually pay lower electricity costs for two out of three models than with the more affordable Performance series.

NoFrost circulating air cooling and access security

A dynamic cooling system featuring forced-air cooling and NoFrost technology keeps the interior free from unwanted ice, whilst defrost cycles are demand-driven. The adjustable temperature range is from -9 °C to -35 °C, with a permissible ambient temperature of +10 °C to +35 °C. The SFPvh is operated via a 2.4-inch colour display with touch and swipe controls. An electronic lock with remote control replaces the traditional key; the Wi-Fi/LAN interface is already integrated and removable, meaning the unit can be connected directly to the SmartMonitoring solution without the need to retrofit separate accessories. The connection cable is 3 m long; the rated current is 4.0 A at 220 to 240 V.

Three sizes ranging from 480 to 1,091 litres

The most compact model, the SFPvh 6501, offers a net volume of 480 litres with four height-adjustable, plastic-coated storage shelves and a maximum total load capacity of 240 kg. The medium-sized model, the SFPvh 8401, has a capacity of 702 litres, also featuring four storage shelves and a maximum total load capacity of 240 kg. The largest model, the SFPvh 1402, offers a net volume of 1,091 litres, eight storage shelves and, at 520 kg, the highest permissible total load capacity in the series. All three sizes are fitted with swivel castors: the SFPvh 1402 has 5 swivel castors, 2 of which have parking brakes; the SFPvh 6501 and 8401 have swivel castors with parking brakes at the front and fixed castors at the rear. The interior lighting on the largest model consists of an LED light column on both sides, whilst on the more compact models it consists of an LED light column on the left. On the largest model, the 1402, the door hinge position is fixed – left-hand and right-hand – whilst on the two more compact models, the 6501 and 8401, it is reversible.

Suitable for cleanrooms in accordance with ISO EN 14644-1 and GMP Class B (1402 and 8401)

The inner container is made entirely of chrome-nickel steel 1.4301/AISI 304. For the SFPvh 1402 and SFPvh 8401, the Liebherr data sheet specifies, in addition to DIN 13277 certification, cleanroom suitability in accordance with ISO EN 14644-1 Class 6 and GMP Class B, as well as certification in accordance with IEC 60068-3, IEC 61010-1, IEC 61010-2-011 and IEC 61326-1, as well as Labgrade Energy Star. For the SFPvh 6501, this line is missing from the current Liebherr data sheet; no information on the cleanroom class is provided here. The sound power level is 60 dB(A) for all three sizes.

Typical applications

The SFPvh laboratory freezer is suitable wherever temperature-sensitive samples, reagents or materials need to be stored at low temperatures in compliance with DIN 13277 and where seamless documentation of the cold chain is required, for example in central laboratories with multiple user groups, in quality assurance departments with extensive stocks of reference samples, or in clinical laboratories with a high volume of samples. If, for example, no one needs to be on site at the weekend, the integrated USB data logger provides complete documentation of the cold chain, whilst the Wi-Fi connection allows for remote monitoring without the need for anyone to physically check the unit.
