Not every laboratory has space for a floor-to-ceiling freezer, but still needs reliable, constant deep-freeze storage for reagents and samples. The Liebherr SFTsg 1501 is a compact laboratory benchtop unit with static cooling, which maintains temperatures between -9 °C and -30 °C and, with a height of 81.9 cm, can be accommodated on a worktop or in a corner of a laboratory where space is limited. The SFTsg 1501 belongs to the Performance segment of Liebherr’s laboratory equipment and is available either with open shelves or in a version with three additional drawers; both versions feature the same basic static cooling technology.

Technology and cooling capacity

Cooling is static, and the temperature can be set within the range of -9 °C to -30 °C. In the event of a fault, the unit emits visual and audible warnings, ensuring that temperature deviations are noticed immediately, an important safety feature, particularly in smaller laboratories where a freezer is not constantly monitored visually. Via a retrofittable Wi-Fi/LAN interface, the benchtop freezer can be integrated into an existing laboratory network if required, to enable centralised documentation of temperature trends.

Certification and cleanroom class

The SFTsg 1501 is certified in accordance with IEC 60068-3, IEC 61010-1, IEC 61010-2-011 and IEC 61326-1, and meets cleanroom class ISO 7 in accordance with ISO EN 14644-1. Compact benchtop unit instead of a floor-standing unit

With a height of 81.9 cm, the SFTsg 1501 is significantly more compact than the floor-standing units SFFfg 4001 and SFFsg 4001 from the Liebherrrange from LT Laborhandel, which, at 188.4 cm in height and with a net volume of 242 l, are designed for a different purpose. Where a floor-standing unit does not fit or where the available floor space is not to be fully utilised, the SFTsg 1501, with a net volume of 69 l, offers a compact alternative for smaller sample quantities, without having to compromise on the same static cooling technology and the same fault alarm system.

Interior layout and ease of use

Three storage shelves in the freezer compartment ensure organised storage; even in a compact space, test tubes and smaller storage boxes can be arranged clearly. The antimicrobial handle with an integrated opening mechanism makes operation easier, even when wearing gloves, as is common in everyday laboratory work. Defrosting is carried out manually, as with most laboratory freezers in this temperature class.

Installation and connection

With external dimensions of 81.9 x 59.7 x 60.5 cm (H x W x D) and a net weight of 35.70 kg, the SFTsg 1501 can be placed on a worktop, a sturdy base or in a corner of a laboratory with limited space, without the need to reserve a separate floor space at full room height. A standard laboratory power supply is sufficient for operation. As a benchtop unit, the SFTsg 1501 differs from the SFUfg/SFUsg under-counter units in the Liebherr range from LT Laborhandel, which are designed for front ventilation when integrated into furniture: The SFTsg 1501 is designed as a free-standing unit and does not require any special installation configuration.
