The Memmert ICO180 CO2 incubator NextGen takes over the position of the previous ICO150 in the new size line-up, but offers noticeably more room: 177 litres of interior volume instead of 156. Anyone who previously used the ICO150 for larger sample volumes gets a clear step up in space with the ICO180, positioned between the mid-sized ICO105 and the large ICO240.

One touchscreen instead of two displays

Instead of the previous TwinDISPLAY with two separate TFT screens, the ICO180 NextGen shows setpoints, actual values and parameter trends on a single 6.86 inch IPS touchscreen with multitouch (480 x 1280 pixels).

Temperature and CO2 control

Temperature is adjustable from +20 to +50 °C, the working range reaches from at least 5 °C above ambient temperature up to +50 °C, setting accuracy 0.1 °C. At 37 °C, temporal temperature fluctuation is ±0.1 K, spatial fluctuation ±0.3 K. CO2 control covers 0 to 20 % CO2 as standard, setting accuracy 0.1 %, temporal fluctuation ±0.2 % CO2.

Humidity and O2 as an upgrade

A stainless steel water pan is included as standard. Option K7 extends the ICO180 to active humidity control from 40 to 98 % rh including rh-off, setting accuracy 0.1 % rh, with humidification through a self-priming micro-dosing pump and hot-steam generator and dehumidification through a membrane pump. Option T6 (requires K7) additionally controls oxygen concentration via nitrogen injection from 1 to 20 % O2, accuracy 0.1 %.

Six shelf positions, glass doors optional

With up to 6 shelf positions, the ICO180 offers more loading flexibility than the smaller models in the line-up, two perforated stainless steel shelves are included as standard. Option K4 fits the interior with two glass-cutout doors instead of the closed stainless steel door, for a quick look inside without disturbing the climate fully. An integrated battery backup (option C2) keeps the display unit running without interruption during a power cut, for uninterrupted documentation even through an outage.

Built-in sterilisation programme

A stored programme sterilises the interior in 60 minutes at +180 °C without removing the sensors first.

Interior and door

The deep-drawn interior is made of stainless steel grade 1.4301 (ASTM 304). The fully insulated stainless steel door closes with a 2-point compression lock and has an inner glass door, maximum load 15 kg per shelf and 90 kg per unit.

Interfaces and software

The ICO180 NextGen has USB-C and Ethernet LAN. The paid myChamber LIMS application is available for connecting to a LIMS, and the connectivity package for the myChamber Monitoring App for permanent remote monitoring. For electronic signatures under 21 CFR Part 11, the FDAQ1 base licence for AtmoCONTROL FDA and myChamber Control FDA can be added. None of these three options are included as standard.

Operation and connection values

The ICO180 NextGen is designed for 230 V, 50/60 Hz, option X2 switches it to 115 V at no extra cost, power consumption is around 1550 W. The stainless steel housing measures 748 x 793 x 689 mm (width x height x depth) plus 50 mm for the door handle, the interior measures 600 x 590 x 500 mm. Net weight is 98 kg, 116 kg packed. For stacking two ICO180 units, a stacking set (item B64732) or a mobile stacking set with base riser (item B68476) is available.

With a large interior volume and controlled temperature and CO2 concentration, the ICO180 NextGen suits:

• Incubating larger sample volumes or several test series at once
• Microbiological, pharmaceutical and biotechnological research with higher throughput
• Lab operations where glass doors (option K4) allow a visual check without disturbing the climate fully
• Stacked installation of several units where floor space is limited (stacking set accessories)

WEEE registration number of the manufacturer (Memmert GmbH + Co. KG, Stiftung EAR): DE 66812464. The ICO180 NextGen is not a medical device. Memmert is discontinuing the separate, previous medical-device series ICOmed (last order date 06 November 2026); according to Memmert, the ICO NextGen is currently undergoing testing and qualification to meet the requirements of medical applications as well, which is an announcement, not an approval already granted.
