Memmert paraffin cabinet UN160pa, 161 l, +20 to +80 °C, TwinDISPLAY

With an internal capacity of 161 litres, the Memmert UN160pa paraffin cabinet is the largest model in the UN-pa series and can accommodate up to eight shelves. The virtually gas-tight interior is designed to ensure uniform heating of embedding media such as paraffin or wax and is used for sample preparation in histology, pathology and microbiology. Control is via the ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY with two TFT colour graphic displays; the setting temperature range extends from +20 to +80 °C.

Chamber for the largest batch size in the series

The interior measures 560 x 720 x 400 mm; the external dimensions of the housing are 745 x 1104 x 584 mm, plus 56 mm for the door handle. Two electropolished stainless steel grid shelves are supplied as standard with the unit; up to eight shelves can be fitted in total. The maximum permissible total load is 210 kg, with 20 kg per shelf. The net weight is approx. 96 kg; in the shipping carton, measuring 830 x 1300 x 800 mm, the gross weight of the consignment is approx. 122 kg.

Virtually gas-tight interior for paraffin and wax

The interior is designed to be virtually gas-tight, is easy to clean and is reinforced by deep-drawn ribbing. A protected, integrated 4-sided all-round heating system surrounds the chamber; the fully insulated stainless steel door closes with a 2-point locking mechanism as a compression door lock. The housing has a fully galvanised sheet steel rear panel. Each unit is supplied with a factory calibration certificate at +80 °C.

Control via ControlCOCKPIT TwinDISPLAY

The adaptive, multifunctional PID microprocessor controller operates with two high-resolution TFT colour graphic displays and can be set to nine languages, including German, English, Chinese and Polish. Two DIN Class A Pt100 sensors use 4-wire technology and monitor each other; in the event of a fault, one sensor takes over the function of the other. The setting accuracy is 0.1 °C. The HeatBALANCE function allows the distribution of heating power between the upper and lower heating groups to be adjusted from -50 to +50 %, whilst SetpointWAIT only starts the process time once the setpoint temperature has been reached. A digital countdown timer with target time display covers durations from 1 minute to 99 days; three freely selectable temperature values can be calibrated. Programmes are created, managed and transferred via Ethernet or USB using the AtmoCONTROL software; the programme sequence is saved in the event of a power cut. Convection operates on the principle of natural ventilation without a fan.

Safety concept with multiple monitoring levels

A mechanical temperature limiter of protection class 1 according to DIN 12880 switches off the heating when the temperature reaches approximately 20 °C above the maximum cabinet temperature. An adjustable temperature monitor (Protection Class 3.1) or an adjustable temperature limiter (Protection Class 2) can also be selected via the display. AutoSAFETY tracks the setpoint at a freely selectable interval, signals any overshoots or undershoots visually and acoustically, and switches off the heating if the setpoint is exceeded. A self-diagnostic system checks the unit for malfunctions. Permissible operating conditions include an ambient temperature of +5 °C to +40 °C, a relative humidity of up to 80 % (non-condensing) and an installation altitude of up to 2,000 m above sea level.

Selection guide for the UN-pa series

With a capacity of 161 litres, the UN160pa is the largest model in the UN-pa series; there is no larger capacity available within this range. If a smaller internal volume is sufficient for the sample quantity, the UN110pa, with a capacity of 108 litres, is the next smaller model; see the size table below.

The UN160pa is designed for reliable sample preparation in pathology, science and research, as well as in histology and microbiology. It is used for preparing microscopic slides in the laboratory, by both students and professors. The virtually gas-tight interior is designed for the precise and uniform heating of embedding media such as paraffin or wax.

For the UN160pa, the following are available ex-works: a full-view glass door with 4-layer insulating glazing, gas inlet and outlet connections, side or rear feed-throughs, a lockable door, a left-hand door hinge, a process-dependent programmable door lock, a door-open detection system and a castor frame. Accessories available include additional stainless steel grid shelves and a perforated tray, drip trays, a wall bracket, a USB-to-Ethernet adapter, levelling feet, built-in frames and levelling or mobile base frames, as well as an AtmoCONTROL-FDA software licence.
