Restek Force Biphenyl LC Column, 1.8 µm, 100 Å, 100 x 2.1 mm, 9629212

Product information "Restek Force Biphenyl LC Column, 1.8 µm, 100 Å, 100 x 2.1 mm, 9629212"

The Force Biphenyl is a reversed-phase column with a biphenyl phase (USP L11) and 1.8 µm fully porous particles. It provides increased selectivity and retention for compounds that are difficult to resolve on C18 columns and other phenyl phases or that elute early.

Phase and particles

The pores measure 100 Å, the specific surface area is 300 m²/g and the carbon content 15 %. The phase is endcapped and aqueous-compatible. The column is designed for small molecules, the pH range is 2.0 to 8.0 and the maximum operating temperature is 80 °C.

MS-friendly mobile phases

The phase limits ionisation suppression and allows simple, MS-friendly mobile phases. This is important for methods with mass spectrometric detection.

Maximum pressure and recommended pressure

The maximum pressure of the column is 1,034 bar (15,000 psi). For maximum service life with 1.8 µm particles, a pressure of at most 830 bar (12,000 psi) is recommended. The HPLC or UHPLC system should cover the operating pressure of the method.

Dimensions compared

At 100 x 2.1 mm, the column has the same dimensions as the Ultra Aqueous C18, but 1.8 instead of 3 µm particles, a different phase and a somewhat wider pH range. At 250 mm length and 5 µm particles, the Allure Silica is a normal-phase column with a different separation mode.

Short profile

The part number suits methods that need additional selectivity compared with a C18, run with MS detection and are intended for a 100 x 2.1 mm format with 1.8 µm particles.

Ordering and dimension

Part number 9629212 stands for the dimension 100 x 2.1 mm with 1.8 µm particles. Further dimensions of the Force Biphenyl have their own part numbers.

Typical applications

  • Bioanalytical tests such as drug and metabolite analyses
  • Analyte classes: diagnostic biomarkers, drugs and pharmaceuticals, mycotoxins, pesticides
  • Compounds that elute early on C18 phases or are difficult to resolve
