Restek Rxi-PAH GC Capillary Column, 40 m, 0.18 mm ID, 0.07 µm, 49316

Product information "Restek Rxi-PAH GC Capillary Column, 40 m, 0.18 mm ID, 0.07 µm, 49316"

The Rxi-PAH is a GC capillary column for the analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The phase is proprietary, of medium polarity. This version is 40 m long, with an inner diameter of 0.18 mm and a film thickness of 0.07 µm.

Dimensions and analysis time

The narrow inner diameter and the thin film stand for faster analysis with excellent separation of important PAHs. The sample capacity is correspondingly lower. The column is also intended for the separation of chrysene and triphenylene, the separation of the benzofluoranthenes and for low-volatility dibenzopyrenes.

EFSA PAH4

The PAH4 group includes benz[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene and benzo[a]pyrene. The Rxi-PAH is intended for this analysis in food safety and for environmental methods. PAH4 designates a group of substances, not a test method.

Other columns for PAHs in the shop

For PAHs and semivolatile compounds in complex matrices there are also columns with 0.25 mm inner diameter. PAHs are also among the fields of use of the Rxi-XLB.

ColumnPhaseDimensions and temperature
Rxi-PAH (this page)proprietary, medium polarity40 m, 0.18 mm ID, 0.07 µm, 40 to 350/360 °C
Rxi-SVOCmsproprietary, 5 % phenyl type30 m, 0.25 mm ID, 0.25 µm, up to 340 °C
Rxi-XLBlow polarity, proprietary30 m, 0.25 mm ID, 0.25 µm, 30 to 340/360 °C

Temperature range

The column can be used from 40 °C to 350 °C isothermal and up to 360 °C in a temperature program. The first temperature value applies to isothermal operation, the second to temperature programs. The lower limit is 40 °C, which is higher than for the 5-phases in the shop, which start at -60 °C.

Dimensions compared

Compared with the 30 m columns with 0.25 mm inner diameter, the Rxi-PAH is 10 m longer, the inner diameter is 0.07 mm smaller and the film at 0.07 µm is considerably thinner. Narrow inner diameter and thin film are part of the design for fast PAH analysis, and the sample capacity is lower as a result.

Typical applications

  • EFSA PAH4 analysis (benz[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[a]pyrene)
  • PAH analysis for food safety and environmental methods
  • Separation of chrysene and triphenylene and of the benzofluoranthenes
  • Low-volatility dibenzopyrenes

EFSA is the European Food Safety Authority. PAH4 designates the four named compounds benz[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene and benzo[a]pyrene. Triphenylene and chrysene are isomers.
