The Rxi-XLB carries a low-polarity, proprietary phase with its own selectivity for GC-MS. It is 30 m long, with an inner diameter of 0.25 mm and a film thickness of 0.25 µm. The support tube is made of fused silica.
Thermal stability
The phase withstands high temperatures: 30 °C to 340 °C isothermal, up to 360 °C in a temperature program. The first temperature value applies to isothermal operation, the second to temperature programs. The column is inert and has extremely low bleed. It is intended for sensitive GC-MS systems, including ion trap detectors.

Lower temperature limit
The Rxi-XLB starts at 30 °C, the 5-phases in the shop (Rtx-5, Rtx-5ms, Rxi-5ms, Rxi-5Sil MS) at -60 °C. Anyone running starting temperatures below 30 °C should choose one of these 5-phases. At the top end, the Rxi-XLB at 340/360 °C is above the 5-phases at 320/350 to 330/350 °C.
Classification
The Rxi-XLB has been in the Restek range since 2007. It is designed as a general-purpose column for GC-MS applications, and its selectivity differs from the 5-phases in the shop.
Typical applications
The column is intended as a general-purpose column with unique selectivity for GC-MS applications, for example for pesticides, PCB congeners and PAHs. Other fields of use are active compounds with high molecular weight and semivolatile compounds in drinking water.
PAHs are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and PCB congeners are the individual polychlorinated biphenyls. Semivolatile compounds (SVOCs) boil higher than the classic volatile organic compounds.
