Product information "Bürkle, gas-tight V2A drum pump with hose, depth 91 cm, #5611-0090"
It is difficult to transfer outgassing or strongly odourous substances using an open drum pump without odours or vapours escaping. The V2A gas-tight drum pump returns the displaced vapours to the original container via a vapour recovery system using the vapour recirculation method, rather than releasing them into the workspace. The pump body is made of V2A stainless steel and PTFE; two immersion depths of 57 and 91 centimetres cater for drums up to 220 litres.
Gas recirculation using the gas swing method
When filling the receiving vessel, the inflowing liquid displaces air and vapours from the container. The Gas-Tight V2A Drum Pump returns these vapours to the original container via a vapour recirculation line, rather than releasing them into the surrounding environment. This reduces workplace exposure to solvent vapours and protects against odour nuisance in the case of strongly odourous media.
Two ball valves for a hermetically sealed system
A shut-off system comprising two ball valves hermetically seals the flow paths when the pump is not in operation. In combination with the universal adapter, which fits container openings from 16 to 49 millimetres, the system can be connected to various types of drums and canisters without vapours escaping from the connection.
V2A stainless steel instead of plastic
Whilst the structurally identical ‘Gasdicht’ drum pump in PP design is sufficient for media compatible with plastic, the V2A version made of 1.4301 stainless steel with PTFE internal parts offers greater mechanical robustness and is also suitable for media that would corrode plastic. However, Bürkle expressly warns against using the pump with acetone or similarly dehydrating solvents.
Safety and earthing
When handling flammable, highly flammable liquids, Bürkle states that explosion protection guidelines must be observed; all parts must be earthed and an anti-static kit must also be used. The immersion depth can be continuously adjusted to the actual drum depth for both sizes.
Two sizes for different drums
The 57-centimetre version is designed for smaller drums up to approximately 60 litres and delivers around 330 millilitres per stroke. The 91-centimetre version is suitable for standard 220-litre drums and delivers significantly more per pump stroke – around 540 millilitres – because the longer dip tube covers a greater distance. The same universal adapter is used for both sizes, so changing the drum size does not require an additional adapter.
Differences compared to the open drum pumps in the range
Most other drum pumps in the range, such as the Ultrarein PTFE drum pump, release vapours into the surrounding environment during dispensing, which is not a problem for odourless or non-critical media. Only when odour nuisance, health and safety or emission regulations come into play is the additional cost of a gas-tight system with vapour recovery justified. For media where neither vapour recirculation nor stainless steel is required, a simpler design is often sufficient.
Maintenance of ball valves and seals
The two ball valves and the seals on the adapter connections are the points where a gas-tight system is most likely to fail. Regular checks for leaks, particularly after switching between different container openings, ensure that the gas recirculation system remains reliable and prevents vapours from escaping unnoticed into the environment.
Typical areas of application
- Decanting outgassing or strong-odour media in laboratories, production facilities and warehouses
- Businesses prioritising emission control and health and safety at the decanting station
- Connection to various container openings ranging from 16 to 49 millimetres
- Decanting from smaller and larger drums, depending on the selected immersion depth

Service and procurement
If a plastic-compatible medium is sufficient, the gas-tight PP drum pump is the lighter and more cost-effective alternative, operating on the same principle. For high-purity media without gas recirculation, the ultra-pure PTFE drum pump is more suitable. LT Laborhandel stocks both immersion depths separately and can advise on the selection based on the drum size and the medium to be transferred.
