Product information "Bürkle Hand Pump for Solvents, V2A Stainless Steel, for Containers up to 60 L, 5603-1000"
Anyone who scoops solvent from a 60-litre drum using a beaker or a jug risks splashes and direct skin contact with the liquid. The hand pump for solvents, on the other hand, operates on the principle of positive pressure: A pump ball forces air into the sealed drum; the resulting overpressure pushes the solvent out in a controlled manner through the fixed spout. This allows flammable solvents to be dispensed in measured quantities without having to tip the drum over or leave it open permanently.
Operation without suction
Unlike a suction pump, the hand pump does not create a vacuum in the riser tube, but rather positive pressure inside the drum itself. The pump bulb is operated by hand; air flows through a tube into the drum, whilst the solvent rises separately to the spout. The shut-off valve at the end of the spout, made of stainless steel and PTFE, stops the flow immediately once the receiving container is full.
For drums up to 60 l with a G2-inch thread
The pump fits containers with a G2-inch external thread and a capacity of up to approximately 60 l. The dip tube can be continuously adjusted to the actual depth of the drum; at full immersion depth, it extends up to 60 centimetres into the drum. With a flow rate of around 10 l per minute and a viscosity of up to 500 mPa·s, the pump is suitable for low- to medium-viscosity solvents. The 12-millimetre external diameter of the outlet fits standard funnels and canister openings, allowing the target container to be filled directly beneath the outlet elbow.
Materials in contact with solvents
All parts in contact with the medium are made of 1.4301 (V2A) stainless steel and PTFE. Both materials are chemically resistant to organic solvents and aromatic compounds and can withstand regular cleaning after filling. Unlike a plastic pump, stainless steel does not swell when frequently exposed to more aggressive solvents and retains its fit, even after many filling cycles.
Independent of mains power and compressed air
The hand pump requires neither a mains power connection nor a compressed air supply; it operates solely by means of the pump ball in the hand. This makes it ideal for workplaces where there is no compressed air network, such as in smaller workshops, for mobile operations or in storage areas away from the main infrastructure. Those who only open a drum occasionally can therefore manage without having to purchase a compressor.
Safety when handling flammable liquids
Bürkle expressly refers to the explosion protection guidelines for handling flammable, highly combustible liquids when using this pump: all parts must be earthed; in addition, the manufacturer recommends an anti-static kit. The product page does not specify a particular ATEX certification; the advice is intended as a recommendation for safe operation.
If a different container or drive type is required
For tinplate canisters with bellows closures, the solvent pump for tinplate canisters is available as a hand pump of identical design, featuring a suitable adapter instead of a G2-inch thread. If both hands need to remain free, or if larger 220-litre drums are being used, the foot-operated solvent pump with spout is the more suitable choice. For small containers such as bottles or canisters up to 10 l with a GL45 thread, the Mini solvent pump is more suitable.
Typical applications
- Contamination-free dispensing of organic solvents and aromatic compounds from 60-litre drums
- Precise dispensing of flammable liquids in the laboratory, workshop or warehouse
- Decanting into smaller containers without tilting or opening the drum
- Drums with G2-inch threads in the chemical industry and in trade

Service and procurement
Businesses with multiple drum sizes or container types often coordinate their order with the appropriate foot-operated or mini version, so that the right pump is to hand for every container. If you have any questions regarding the correct thread size, the choice between hand- and foot-operated models, or spare parts such as the shut-off valve, LT Laborhandel will be happy to assist you directly, even for larger requirements across multiple workstations.
