Product information "Bürkle Solvent Pump for Tinplate Canisters, V2A Stainless Steel, Bellows Seal Adapter, 5603-2000"
In practice, tinplate canisters with bellows caps are often simply tipped over and emptied by hand, resulting in splashes and direct contact with the contents. The solvent pump for tin cans, on the other hand, fits a suitable threaded adapter directly onto the bellows cap and then operates like a standard hand pump based on the overpressure principle: The pump ball forces air into the canister; the excess pressure then forces the liquid out through the fixed spout.
Adapter for the standard bellows cap
The supplied threaded adapter, with a 35-millimetre, 2-thread internal thread, fits the bellows cap commonly used on tinplate canisters in industry. This eliminates the need for the risky manual pouring of hazardous substances; the canister remains stationary during filling, and the contents flow out in a controlled manner via the spout fitted with a shut-off valve. The adapter is screwed on once and remains attached to the canister for the duration of the transfer; afterwards, it can be removed just as easily as the original bellows cap.
For canisters up to around 60 l
The pump is suitable for containers with a capacity of up to approximately 60 l; the 15-millimetre-diameter dip tube can be continuously adjusted to the depth of the canister, reaching a maximum immersion depth of 60 centimetres. With a flow rate of around 10 l per minute and a viscosity limit of up to 500 mPa·s, the performance matches that of the hand pump for drums with a G2-inch thread; only the connection itself is tailored to the canister cap.
Why the adapter makes all the difference
Compared to drums with a G2-inch thread, tinplate canisters are a category of their own; the bellows cap cannot simply be converted to a standard thread. Without a suitable adapter, many businesses have no choice but to tip the canister, with all the associated risks of splashing and uncontrolled spillage. The supplied adapter bridges this gap without requiring any modifications to the canister itself, and can be removed again once filling is complete.
Materials and safety when handling flammable liquids
Parts in contact with the medium are made of 1.4301 (V2A) stainless steel and PTFE and are chemically resistant to organic solvents and aromatic compounds. Bürkle refers to the explosion protection guidelines when handling flammable, highly flammable liquids: all parts must be earthed; in addition, the manufacturer recommends an anti-static kit. The product page does not specify a specific ATEX certification number.
If a different container is being used
For drums with a G2-inch thread instead of a bellows seal, the identically constructed hand pump for solvents is the appropriate choice; for small containers with a GL45 connection up to 10 l, the Mini solvent pump is recommended. If, on the other hand, 220-litre steel drums need to be connected and both hands need to remain free, the foot-operated solvent pump - available in either an outlet elbow or hose version, meets this requirement.
Independent of mains power and compressed air
Like the other hand pumps in the range, this model requires neither a mains power connection nor a compressed air supply. This makes it particularly practical for businesses that only occasionally open tin cans, such as in smaller laboratories, workshops or storage areas without their own compressed air network. The threaded adapter can also be swapped between several canisters of the same closure type, meaning a single pump is sufficient for multiple containers.
Typical applications
- Contamination-free decanting from tinplate canisters with bellows closures
- Avoiding the manual pouring of hazardous substances
- Extraction of organic solvents and aromatic compounds in the laboratory
- Businesses that routinely source raw materials in tinplate canisters
- Goods-in and decanting stations where several cans with the same type of closure are in circulation

Service and procurement
Businesses that use both canisters with bellows closures and drums with G2-inch threads often order both pump versions together, so that the correct connection is available for every container. LT Laborhandel can assist with selecting the correct adapter, with larger orders for multiple workstations, and with spare parts such as the shut-off valve.
