Product information "Bürkle Mini Immersion Bomb Sampler, V2A stainless steel, 50 ml, 5365-5000"
A bent sight tube or a narrow barrel opening often prevents a 89- or 149-millimetre-diameter submersible cylinder from passing through. Bürkle’s mini-diving bomb, with an external diameter of 32 millimetres, is significantly slimmer and weighs just 330 grams; according to Bürkle, it is suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres within Ex protection zone 0, explosion groups IIA and IIB. Despite its compact design, it remains a fully-fledged stainless steel immersion sampler, not merely a makeshift tool for one-off use.
32-millimetre diameter for narrow openings
With a total height of 180 millimetres and a collection vessel height of 120 millimetres, the mini immersion bomb fits through openings that a standard immersion bottle cannot pass through. The collection vessel holds 50 millilitres; this volume is generally sufficient for a targeted control sample. By way of comparison: the Ex submersible bottle, with a capacity of 1,000 millilitres, has an external diameter of 89 millimetres – almost three times that of the Mini submersible bomb.
In use with winding sounding pipes
In tank farms with older drums or containers, level gauging pipes are not always laid in a straight line, but follow the shape of the drum or a retrofitted structure. A straight, thicker immersion vessel gets stuck in them or fails to reach the liquid at all. With its slim diameter, the Mini Immersion Probe fits through such pipework and still delivers a usable sample from the target location.
V2A stainless steel with PTFE seal
The housing and upper section are made from V2A stainless steel (1.4301), whilst the seal is made from PTFE. According to Bürkle, details such as screw connections are made from 1.4404 stainless steel (AISI 316L), the same material used in larger Bürkle samplers, ensuring that corrosion resistance and cleanability are consistent across the range.
Removable top section for cleaning
The top section can be unscrewed, allowing the small interior space between the two sampling ports to be cleaned thoroughly. With a diameter of just 32 millimetres, this is important because residues in a narrow housing are otherwise more difficult to remove than in a large-volume container.
Easy to handle despite its light weight
Weighing 330 grams, the mini-diving bomb can be easily guided with one hand, whilst the other hand holds the rope or the handle of a sounding rod. When lowering it into a narrow opening, often only a few centimetres wide, the low weight is not a disadvantage, as there is no resistance from narrow pipe walls to overcome, unlike with a heavier, wider diving body.
Cleaning despite compact design
Even though the internal diameter is small at 32 millimetres, the mini submersible bomb can be rinsed out completely once the upper section has been unscrewed. For businesses that use the same mini submersible bomb on several sounding pipes in succession, the ability to dismantle it quickly is more important than with larger submersible containers, as there is often very little time for sampling between individual pipes. The PTFE seal in the upper section remains leak-proof even after frequent unscrewing and screwing on.
When 50 millilitres is not enough
The small volume is the trade-off for the slim design. If a sample volume of 50 millilitres is insufficient for analysis, LT Laborhandel offers the Ex immersion bottle and the glass immersion bottle in 1,000-millilitre versions, provided the opening of the container permits this. For 500 or 1,000 millilitres, with a similarly robust brass construction, the Brass Immersion Flask is also available.
Typical applications
- Sampling in hard-to-reach, confined spaces
- bent or angled sounding pipes
- Barrels with narrow openings
- Control samples where a sample volume of 50 millilitres is sufficient
- Work in areas for which Bürkle specifies Ex protection zone 0, explosion groups IIA and IIB

Service and procurement
For businesses that take samples not only from narrow sampling pipes but also from larger tanks with wider openings, LT Laborhandel can, on request, combine the mini submersible bomb with larger-volume submersible containers from the same explosion-proof range. For multiple workstations or shifts, the requirement for several units can be bundled into a single order. If you have any questions regarding opening size or the appropriate sample volume, please contact LT Laborhandel directly for assistance.
