Product information "Bürkle Multi-Collector Multi-stage Sampler, aluminium, 710 mm penetration depth, 5317-1085"
Bulk materials are rarely homogeneous; different layers within a silo or container may vary in moisture content, particle size or composition. The Aluminium Multi-Collector is a multi-stage sampler with three separate collection chambers, which takes samples from three different depths simultaneously in a single penetration, rather than having to make separate penetrations for each layer.
Three chambers, one penetration
The three collection chambers are spaced 168 mm apart along the 885 mm long, 25 mm thick tube. Each chamber is 100 mm long and 12 mm wide and has a capacity of 17 ml, giving a total of 51 ml of sample material from three zones. The first chamber begins 98 mm behind the tip; the penetration depth is 710 mm. Coloured caps identify the individual chambers so that the samples can be clearly identified after opening.
Suitable for vertical and horizontal use
The multi-collector can be inserted both vertically from above into a silo and horizontally from the side into a container or tank. The separate chambers prevent material from different layers from mixing during insertion; each chamber provides its own sub-sample, which can be assigned to a specific depth.
Aluminium for reduced weight
Compared with the identically constructed version made of V4A stainless steel with a PTFE core, the aluminium version is lighter, which makes handling and transport easier, for example when the sampler is moved between different silos or containers several times a day. Parts in contact with the medium, made from stainless steel 1.4404 (AISI 316L), and the seal, made from acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber, are certified in accordance with EU Regulation 1935/2004 for food contact. For those wishing to combine the robustness of solid stainless steel with the low-friction properties of PTFE, the Multi-Collector series in V4A stainless steel/PTFE with two penetration depths offers the ideal alternative.
Why three chambers are better than one
Bulk material can segregate by particle size or moisture content whilst a silo is being filled, meaning that the composition varies across the height of the silo. A single sample taken from one depth does not reveal this effect. With three chambers spaced at fixed intervals of 168 mm, the Multi-Collector provides three sub-samples from different zones in a single insertion, which can be analysed individually or combined to provide an overall assessment.
Colour coding for identification in the laboratory
The coloured caps supplied identify the three chambers as soon as the sampler is opened, so that the 17-millilitre sub-samples from the different depths can be clearly assigned to their respective zones in the laboratory without the need for separate labelling.
Construction and research as further areas of application
In addition to the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, Bürkle also cites construction and research as areas of application for the Multi-Collector. These sectors frequently involve building material samples such as sand, gravel or aggregates, where the composition needs to be documented across the depth of the deposit for material testing or research projects.
Handling at penetration depths of up to 710 millimetres
With a total length of 885 mm and a penetration depth of 710 mm, the Multi-Collector reaches significantly deeper into a silo or container than a simple hand-held sampler. The three chambers are distributed across the entire penetration depth, so that a single person can insert the sampler, withdraw it and then remove all three sub-samples, rather than having to make separate penetrations at each depth. This saves a considerable amount of time on site compared with three individual penetrations.
Typical applications
- Bulk material samples from multiple depths or layers in a single operation
- Food and pharmaceutical industries, chemical industry, construction and research
- Quality control for materials prone to segregation over the storage height
- Businesses that prioritise a lightweight sampler when moving between sites frequently

Service and procurement
Bürkle stocks the aluminium Multi-Collector in a range of insertion depths; LT Laborhandel can advise on the appropriate length for the respective container. Customers requiring a version made from V4A stainless steel/PTFE will find this listed as a separate product in the range. Specific requirements, such as replacement caps or other accessories, can be arranged via LT Laborhandel’s procurement service.
