Product information "Bürkle Novartos Multi Pharma 2-compartment zone collector, V4A stainless steel, 600 mm insertion depth, 5358-0602"
Mixing uniformity cannot be assessed at a single point in the drum. If you want to know whether a powder or granulate is mixed uniformly across the entire fill height, you need samples from several zones at the same time, and, where possible, two sub-samples from each zone for cross-checking. The Novartos Multi with its dual-sample extraction system takes two samples from each of four to nine zones in a single puncture, depending on the puncture depth, rather than puncturing each zone individually.
Multiple zones, double sampling
Depending on its length, the lance has four, seven or nine collection chambers distributed across the entire penetration depth. Each chamber accommodates two sample inserts (sold separately), which fill simultaneously upon insertion. This means that a single puncture yields duplicates from each layer tested, rather than just a single sample per zone. After withdrawal, the filled inserts are removed chamber by chamber and assigned to the respective zones.
Use in homogeneity tests
This method is typically used when it is necessary to check whether an active ingredient or an ingredient has been distributed evenly across the fill level of a drum or big bag. The duplicates per zone allow for an initial check as to whether an anomalous value at a particular point is genuine or due to a measurement error, without the need for a second puncture in the same zone.
Three lengths, increasing number of zones
At a penetration depth of 600 millimetres, the lance has four zones with eight chambers, giving a total length of 800 millimetres. At 1,000 millimetres, there are seven zones with 14 chambers, giving a total length of 1,200 millimetres. At 1,400 millimetres, there are nine zones with 18 chambers, giving a total length of 1,600 millimetres. The chamber spacing is 118 millimetres in the shortest version, 100 millimetres in the medium version and 135 millimetres in the longest version, distributed across the selected penetration depth in accordance with the number of zones.
Material for the pharmaceutical sector
Manufactured from V4A (1.4404) stainless steel with components made from 1.4571, tube diameter 25 millimetres. At 30 millimetres, the chambers are slightly shorter than those on the Novartos Uno, allowing more zones to be accommodated within the same overall length; the start of the first collection chamber is 55 millimetres in front of the lancet tip.
Why the chamber position matters
Because the first collection chamber begins only 55 millimetres behind the lance tip, the top 55 millimetres of the container remain without a sample of their own. The chamber spacing determines how evenly the remaining zones are distributed across the selected penetration depth; in the 600-millimetre version, this spacing is narrower than in the two longer models. To obtain a complete overview of the fill level, you should therefore select the length that corresponds as closely as possible to the actual height of the container.
Replacement tip and sample inserts
A replacement tip made of V4A is available as a separate spare part for the Novartos Multi series. The corresponding sample inserts are available in five volumes ranging from 0 to 2 millilitres, with finer gradations than in the Uno version, as each of the up to nine zones has two dedicated inserts.
Choice within the Novartos range
If only a single target point is being tested rather than a cross-section across several layers, the Novartos Uno with a 2-position sample holder is sufficient. If the homogeneity test requires three samples per zone instead of two – for example, for a more comprehensive validation – the Novartos Multi with a 3-position sample holder is available. The single-target variant with three samples is the Novartos Uno with a 3-position sample holder.
Typical applications
- Homogeneity testing of powders and granulates across multiple layers of a container
- Duplicate sample per zone to verify conspicuous individual values
- Incoming goods and release testing in pharmaceutical and chemical production
- Inspection of mixed batches in drums and big bags

Service and procurement
The choice of length depends on the insertion depth into the container and the number of zones to be tested. LT Laborhandel supplies the Novartos Multi 2-channel in all three lengths and procures suitable sample inserts ranging from 0 to 2 millilitres, as well as the replacement tip made of V4A. LT Laborhandel can assist you in choosing between the Uno and Multi versions or between the 2-channel and 3-channel models.
