Product information "Bürkle PharmaScoop pharmaceutical scoop, V4A stainless steel, 10 ml, 5324-0010"
Sampling of powders and granules in pharmaceutical production requires clean transitions between batches. A quality assurance (QA) staff member taking an incoming goods sample from a drum must ensure that no residue from the previous sample is carried over into the new batch by the scoop. This is precisely why the PharmaScoop is manufactured to be completely free of edges, gaps and undercuts. With nine sizes ranging from 10 to 3,000 millilitres, the range covers almost any sample volume, from small retention samples in the laboratory to larger batches during incoming goods inspection.
Edge-free design for high hygiene standards
Every sharp edge, every gap and every undercut is a place where powder residues can accumulate and be transferred to the new sample the next time the scoop is used. The PharmaScoop completely avoids such areas and is, in addition, high-gloss polished inside and out in V4A stainless steel (1.4404, AISI 316L). The smooth surface can be cleaned without leaving any residue, as required when sampling powders and granulates in the pharmaceutical industry. The material is certified for food contact in accordance with EU Regulation 1935/2004; Bürkle provides a collective certificate covering several V4A items for this purpose.
Nine sizes for every sample quantity
The smallest scoop holds 10 millilitres and is suitable for very small samples, for example when only a small amount of material is available for a retentive sample. The largest, with a capacity of 3,000 millilitres, can hold a significantly larger quantity of powder in one go, which is practical for checking entire containers. In between, there are seven further sizes at 50, 100, 500, 750, 1,000, 1,250 and 1,700 millilitres, each with its own internal diameter and overall length (see table below). Those who regularly test different batch sizes can thus select the appropriate scoop for each task, rather than switching between one that is too small and one that is too large when using a single size.
Selection guide based on sample volume
For small retention samples in the laboratory, such as during incoming goods inspections of individual raw material batches, sizes ranging from 10 to 100 millilitres are usually sufficient. The sizes in the medium range of 500 to 1,250 millilitres are those most frequently used when sampling larger containers or when checking mixed batches. The two largest sizes, 1,700 and 3,000 millilitres, are suitable when a representative quantity needs to be taken from a large container in a single go, such as from a big bag or a large drum.
V4A material in practice
Stainless steel 1.4404, also known as V4A or AISI 316L, is a material widely used in the pharmaceutical industry due to its high corrosion resistance. It can also withstand frequent cleaning with more aggressive agents without the surface or finish being affected, ensuring consistently smooth, residue-free surfaces throughout the scoop’s service life.
Handle and Handling
The handle is included in the overall length for all nine sizes and ranges from 53 to 124 millimetres, depending on the model. This is sufficient for most open containers and bags. If the short handle is not long enough for deeper containers such as drums or IBCs, the identically constructed PharmaScoop with a 600-millimetre-long handle and a scoop volume of 1,000 millilitres is available as a separate product.
A suitable addition to the range
For very small sample quantities from 0.1 millilitres, the PharmaPicker is the more suitable choice; for cohesive, poorly flowing powders, the Scratcher powder sampler is recommended. If a closed system for zone sampling from drums is required instead of an open scoop, the Novartos Uno Pharma zone sampler is a better fit.
Typical applications
- Sampling of powders and granules in pharmaceutical production
- Retention samples for quality assurance during goods receipt and release
- Batch control prior to further processing in mixers or filling lines
- Sampling in cleanrooms where residue-free cleaning is mandatory

Service and procurement
The appropriate size depends on the typical sample volume and the container opening at the workplace. LT Laborhandel can order any of the nine PharmaScoop sizes individually or as a set and, if required, can also coordinate combinations with other samplers from the range – for example, where both small and very large sample volumes are handled within the same facility. If you have any queries regarding the correct size or the selection of multiple scoops for different applications, please contact LT Laborhandel for assistance.
