Product information "Bürkle, Ultrarein PTFE drum pump with hose & tap, 40 cm, #5606-0401"
Anyone wishing to transfer a corrosive acid or a high-purity liquid not directly beneath the drum, but into a vessel situated further away or at a lower level, requires room to manoeuvre at the outlet. The Ultrarein PTFE drum pump with hose and tap is the flexible counterpart to the drum pump with a fixed outlet elbow; it is of identical construction with a pump body made of PTFE and FEP, but features a flexible outlet hose and a PVDF shut-off tap at the end.
Flexible hose instead of a rigid elbow
The PTFE outlet hose directs the fluid to the desired point regardless of the drum’s position; depending on the size, the length ranges from around 65 centimetres to 1 metre. This also allows containers to be filled that are not positioned directly beneath the pump, such as on a set of scales next to the drum or on a second shelf.
PVDF shut-off valve to prevent dripping
A shut-off valve made of solid PVDF is fitted at the end of the hose. It prevents the medium from continuing to drip after the valve has been closed and retains vapours that are hazardous to health as long as the valve remains closed. This facilitates filling several smaller containers in batches without having to switch the pump off in between.
PTFE, FEP and PVDF materials for aggressive media
As with the outlet elbow version, the pump body is made of PTFE and FEP, which are chemically resistant to almost all corrosive liquids except elemental fluorine. The additional PVDF shut-off valve adds a third highly resistant fluoroplastic to the list of materials, without compromising the pump’s fundamental suitability for acids, alkalis and high-purity media.
Three immersion depths for different containers
The shortest version, with an immersion depth of 40 centimetres, is suitable for canisters up to approximately 30 litres and delivers around 180 millilitres per stroke. The medium size, with a 60-centimetre immersion depth, is suitable for containers up to 60 litres, whilst the longest version, with a 95-centimetre immersion depth, is suitable for standard 220-litre drums, delivering around 400 millilitres per stroke. The 60- and 95-centimetre versions both feature a 1-metre-long outlet hose.
When the hose and tap make all the difference
A gap between the keg and the receiving vessel, a shelf blocking direct access, or several smaller vessels to be filled one after the other: in all these cases, the extra effort involved in using a hose and tap is well worth it compared to the simpler version with a fixed spout. If, on the other hand, the receiving vessel is always in the same position directly beneath the keg, the more compact version without a movable hose is often sufficient.
Three immersion depths for the same design
As with the spouted version, the choice of immersion depth depends on the drum size at the workplace. The 40-centimetre version is suitable for canisters, the 60-centimetre version for medium-sized drums, and the 95-centimetre version for standard 220-litre drums. The flow rate and dip tube diameter are identical for both spout types at each immersion depth; the difference lies solely in the spout.
Typical applications
- Filling acids and alkalis into a vessel situated at a distance or at a lower level
- Batch transfer of high-purity liquids with a shut-off valve to prevent dripping
- Workstations where the receiving vessel cannot be positioned directly beneath the pump
- Transferring liquids from small to large containers, depending on the selected immersion depth

Overview of variants
| Item number | Max. immersion depth | Flow rate approx. | For tanks up to |
| 5606-0401 | 40 cm | 180 ml/stroke | approx. 30 l |
| 5606-0601 | 60 cm | 270 ml per stroke | approx. 60 l |

The length of the outlet hose is 1 metre for the 60- and 95-cm versions. For the 40-cm version, Bürkle states approximately 65 centimetres in the product description; however, the manufacturer’s structured data field does not explicitly confirm this figure, so it is provided here only as a guide and does not appear in the table.

Service and procurement
If the workstation does not require a flexible hose, the identical version with a fixed outlet elbow is the simpler and slightly more compact choice. For larger volumes with an electric drive, the drum pump for acids and alkalis is more suitable. LT Laborhandel orders each immersion depth individually and provides advice on selection based on the drum size and the medium.
