Watch components, jewellery and test tubes are among the smaller items the Select series cleans. The Elma Elmasonic Select 40 holds 3.9 litres, with a recommended working volume of 2.9 litres. It operates at 37 kHz, has a heater and stores four programs. Elma aims the Select series at research and development laboratories, pharmaceutical and industrial analytical laboratories, workshops and repair shops, metalworking companies, watchmakers and jewellers.Tank, fill level and basketThe tank measures 215 x 115 x 145 mm internally. The fill level is 115 mm, leaving 90 mm from the basket floor to the liquid level. The original accessory basket has internal dimensions of 190 x 105 x 75 mm and can be loaded with up to 3 kg. The supplied plastic lid can be turned upside down and used as a drip tray for a basket. The Select 40 has no drain connection, so no hose nozzle is included.Power and ultrasonic modesThe effective ultrasonic power is 120 W with 480 W peak power, the heater delivers 200 W, and the total power consumption is 320 W. There is a choice of five modes. Eco is the gentle mode, Sweep distributes the mechanical cleaning effect evenly, Pulse increases the peak power for stubborn soiling, Dynamic combines Pulse and Sweep, and Degas prepares the liquid for the subsequent cleaning. Auto-Degas and a temperature-controlled start are also available. Four programs store a combination of mode, duration and temperature, and the Select button calls up program operation.Operation at the unitThe large display shows duration and temperature, and settings are made via a wipe-clean membrane keypad with plus and minus keys. Every input is confirmed acoustically. The duration can be selected from 1 minute to 6 hours, the setpoint temperature from 25 to 80 °C, and there is also an adjustable limit temperature between 40 and 60 °C. Dry-run protection is active when the heating is on, and after 8 hours the unit switches off as a safety measure. The sound pressure level with lid at a distance of 1 m is below 80 dB(A). The ultrasonic pressure level is below 110 dB, also measured with lid at a distance of 1 m. The unit's degree of protection is IP20, and its protection class is I.When a different tank is suitableThe tank of the Select 40 is 215 mm long. The Elmasonic Select 60 has a tank of 280 x 130 x 145 mm and 5.9 litres total volume, plus 400 W heating power and 150 W effective ultrasonic power. Unlike the Select 40, it has a drain connection. The Elmasonic Select 80 has a tank of 475 x 110 x 145 mm, so more than twice as long with 5 mm less depth. The Elma Elmasonic Select 150 is the version with a large footprint: the tank measures 485 x 280 x 95 mm. The total volume is 14.6 litres and the recommended working volume 8.7 litres, because the fill level is only 65 mm. The original accessory basket has internal dimensions of 455 x 250 x 45 mm and carries up to 7 kg. Externally the unit measures 575 x 360 x 230 mm with lid, and the weight is 8.8 kg. Compared with the Select 180 with a tank height of 195 mm, the tank is 100 mm shallower in height, but the footprint at 485 x 280 mm is considerably larger than 300 x 270 mm. The plastic lid in the scope of delivery can be turned upside down and used as a drip tray for the basket.Performance data and modesThe ultrasonic peak power is 1,200 W, the heater delivers 800 W, and the total power consumption is 1,100 W. Eco, Sweep, Pulse, Dynamic and Degas can be selected, plus four programs that can be saved. Pulse increases the peak power, Sweep distributes the cleaning effect evenly, and Dynamic combines both. Further functions are available with Auto-Degas and temperature-controlled start. The heating is adjustable from 25 to 80 °C, and the duration from 1 minute to 6 hours. At 800 W, the heating power is twice as high as on the Select 100 and equal to that of the Select 120 and 180.Operation and protectionThe unit is operated via a large display and a wipe-clean membrane keypad, and it confirms inputs acoustically. The limit temperature can be set between 40 and 60 °C. The G 3/8 inch drain connection is opened with a rotary switch, and the DN10 hose nozzle is part of the scope of delivery. Dry-run protection works when the heating is active, and after 8 hours the unit switches off. For this, the Elma Elmasonic Easy 40H has 3.9 litres total volume, 120 W effective ultrasonic power at 37 kHz and a heater with 200 W. As across the whole series, operation is via rotary knobs, a start/stop button, a mode button and LED indicators.Tank, basket and insert lidThe tank measures 215 x 115 x 145 mm internally, with 2.9 litres of working volume recommended at a fill level of 115 mm. 80 mm lie between the basket floor and the liquid level. The gain lies in the tank: 145 mm depth and 3.9 litres compared with 95 mm and 2.7 litres on the 30H.
