Product information "ESAB OK GoldRox Welding Rod, Rutile-cellulose, E 42 0 RC 11, Ø 3.2 x 350 mm, 1 kg, 46593235Z0"
90 to 140 A at 24 V and a melting rate of 1.1 kg/h: these are the key specifications of the OK GoldRox with a diameter of 3.2 mm. The electrode is 350 mm long and the pack weighs 1 kg. It is the version designed for higher currents, alongside the 2.5 mm electrode (60 to 90 A). Both have a yellow coating with an ignition aid.
Welding data
At 90 per cent of the maximum current, each electrode takes 57 s to burn out. The deposition rate is 59 per cent; 59 electrodes are consumed to produce 1 kg of weld metal. The welding current is DC+ or AC. ESAB recommends direct current at the negative terminal; the positive terminal is also suitable. For alternating current, the transformer must have a no-load voltage of at least 50 V.
Classification and weld metal
EN ISO 2560-A classifies the electrode as E 42 0 RC 11; SFA/AWS A5.1 classifies it as E6013, carbon-manganese alloy type. The tensile strength of the weld metal is 520 MPa, and the notched impact energy is 60 J at 0 °C. Welding can be carried out in all positions, including vertical down (PG) and overhead (PE).
Difference compared to the 2.5 mm electrode
With the larger diameter, the current range and deposition rate increase, whilst the output decreases slightly.
| Ø 2.5 mm | Ø 3.2 mm (this electrode) | |
| Current range | 60 to 90 A | 90 to 140 A |
| Voltage | 25 V | 24 V |
| Melting capacity | 0.8 kg/h | 1.1 kg/h |
| Output | 62 % | 59 % |

| Melt-off time at 90 % Imax | 49 s | 57 s |
Typical applications
GoldRox is described as a tack and assembly electrode for metal construction, light steel construction, tank construction and shipbuilding. It is not affected by primers or scale; the slag is easy to remove and spatter formation is minimal.
Approvals
Depending on the manufacturing site: ABS 2, BV 2, CE EN 13479, DB 10.039.48, LR 2, UKCA EN 13479 and VdTÜV 19622.
