Pharmaceutical, cosmetic or food applications often require traceable, programmable dosing processes rather than simple speed control. The Hei-FLOW Ultimate 120 covers a speed range of 5 to 120 revolutions per minute and features a digital display, volume and interval dosing, and an RS232 interface. As the top-of-the-range model in the 120 series, it differs from the Expert line primarily in this digital control system.

Digital dosing instead of estimated values

The digital display allows volume dosing between 0.001 and 9,999 millilitres to be programmed, as well as interval dosing within the same volume range with pause times ranging from 0.1 seconds to 750 hours. A soft start and an electronic brake complement the control system; the delivery accuracy is ± 1 per cent, which is tighter than that of the Hei-FLOW models without a digital display. The pump can also be calibrated to adjust the dosing accuracy to the specific tubing.

Two interfaces for external control

In addition to the analogue interface (0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA), an RS 232 digital interface is also available, via which speed, direction of rotation, and start/stop functions can be controlled from a higher-level system. An optional foot switch also allows operation inside enclosed fume cupboards without the need to access the controls on the unit.

Single-channel or multi-channel operation depending on the pump head

With a single-channel pump head, the flow rate ranges from 0.36 to 813 millilitres per minute; with a multi-channel pump head, it ranges from 0.005 to 329 millilitres per minute. The choice of pump head depends on the number of parallel delivery lines and the required hose diameter. The soft start reduces pressure surges at start-up, whilst the electronic brake shortens the coasting time on stop; together, these features have a direct impact on the reproducibility of the dosing processes.

Selection guide within the Hei-FLOW range

Those who work with multi-channel pump heads from the outset will find that the Hei-FLOW Ultimate 120 Multi features the same drive with a factory-fitted multi-channel adapter. If an analogue interface without a digital display and dosing functions is sufficient, the Hei-FLOW Expert 120 is the simpler and more cost-effective alternative within the same speed range. For significantly higher flow rates in single-channel operation, the Hei-FLOW Ultimate 600 is available with a speed range of 24 to 600 revolutions per minute.
