For those who wish to use a stirrer in the laboratory without having to purchase a heating function or maintain one later on, the Hei-Mix S is a compact magnetic stirrer suitable for stirring volumes of up to 5 l. The shaded-pole motor covers a speed range of 0 to 2,200 revolutions per minute, whilst the footprint on the workbench measures just 126 x 80 x 140 millimetres. For titrations, small fermenters and other biochemical preparations where gentle yet rapid mixing is essential, this basic model from the Heidolph range of magnetic stirrers is perfectly adequate.

Stirring plate and housing for continuous experiments

The stirring plate, which has a diameter of 104 millimetres, is made of the thermoplastic PVDF and is white in colour. This allows colour changes during a reaction to be monitored directly on the work surface without the need to decant the sample. The polyamide housing is designed for continuous use and can support a load of up to 6 kilograms. Protection class IP 21 protects against accidental contact and coarse contamination, which is sufficient for daily operation on an open workbench. With a footprint of just 126 x 80 x 140 millimetres, the Hei-Mix S can be accommodated even on small work surfaces or in a fume cupboard without taking up much space.

Speed range for fast and gentle operation

The speed range of 0 to 2,200 revolutions per minute covers both the slow stirring of sensitive samples and the rapid homogenisation of larger volumes. With a sound pressure level of less than 70 dB(A) in accordance with IEC 61010, operation remains unobtrusive even in busy laboratories. The Hei-Mix S does not feature a heating function, a temperature sensor or a digital display; however, this keeps operation simple and the purchase cost lower than that of the larger Hei-PLATE models.

The size and shape of the stirring bar depend on the shape of the vessel and the viscosity of the solution, not on the drive mechanism itself.

Selection guide: when a Hei-PLATE model is more suitable

If the footprint or stirring volume of the Hei-Mix S is insufficient, the Hei-PLATE series offers the Hei-PLATE Mix 20 l as a larger alternative without a heating function for stirring volumes of up to 20 l, which is identical in construction to the chassis of the Mix’n’Heat Core units. If a heating plate is also required, for example for mixtures that need to be heated or reduced, the analogue-controlled Hei-PLATE Mix’n’Heat Core, with a footprint of 145 millimetres and heating temperatures up to 300 degrees Celsius, is the more suitable option; for digital control with an external Pt1000 sensor, the Hei-PLATE Mix’n’Heat Core+ is recommended.
