Product information "Heidolph Titramax 101 Bench-top Shaker, 3 mm Orbit, 4 Microtitre Plates, 544-11300-00"
Some applications involving microtitre plates require more force than a gentle orbital motion can provide. Reagents that dissolve only slowly, or solid particles in the wells, only dissolve completely when subjected to more vigorous agitation. The Titramax 101 operates with a 3-millimetre circular vibrating orbit and can accommodate up to four microtitre plates at the same time.
Powerful orbit for thorough mixing
The shaded-pole motor allows for infinitely variable speed control between 150 and 1,350 revolutions per minute, adjusted via the front control knob. With a 3-millimetre orbit, the platform moves with a significantly greater range of motion than the structurally identical Titramax 100 with its 1.5-millimetre orbit, which dissolves and distributes solids in the wells more quickly. A timer can be set to limit runs to up to 120 minutes, with an audible signal at the end; in continuous operation, the unit continues to run without a time limit.
Four microtitre plates on a familiar chassis
The dimensions, weight and usable area are the same as those of the Titramax 100: 245 x 125 x 310 millimetres, 5.5 kilograms, with a usable area of 220 x 220 millimetres for samples weighing up to 2 kilograms. The rubber mat with recesses holds microtitre plates and vessels securely on the platform even at high speeds and is easy to grip for loading and unloading. A power consumption of 31 watts and a sound pressure level below 50 dB(A) allow operation even in smaller laboratory spaces.
Typical applications
- Dissolving and distributing solid components in microtitre plates
- Intensive mixing of reagents in wells
- Simultaneous processing of up to four microtitre plates
- Routine mixing applications where a gentler orbit is insufficient
Differences from the Titramax 100
Both models share the same chassis, motor and speed range, but differ in their orbit: 1.5 millimetres for the gentle Titramax 100, designed for sensitive cell cultures, and 3 millimetres for the Titramax 101, which provides more vigorous mixing. Those who regularly work with six rather than four microtitre plates, or who require temperature control, will find the right equipment in the larger Titramax 1000, which can be expanded into an incubation system with the Incubator 1000 heating module. The manufacturer’s website does not list any dedicated temperature-control accessories for the Titramax 101 itself; it remains the more vigorous shaking solution for samples at room temperature.
Environmental conditions in laboratory use
The Titramax 101 is designed for ambient temperatures of 5 to 31 degrees Celsius at up to 80 per cent relative humidity; at higher temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius, the permissible humidity decreases linearly to 50 per cent. It is intended for installation at altitudes of up to 2,000 metres above sea level, as well as for overvoltage category II and pollution degree 2, which corresponds to a standard laboratory environment without any special protective measures. The unit compensates for mains voltage fluctuations of up to 10 per cent without any loss of function; a self-resetting overheating protection mechanism intervenes automatically if necessary.
