Cell cultures are sensitive to excessive shaking. The Titramax 100 moves culture and reagent vessels in a circular motion with a small orbit of 1.5 millimetres, ensuring that culture media are distributed evenly without subjecting cell clusters to mechanical stress. As the entry-level model in the Titramax range, it shares the chassis, drive system and operating concept with the other platform shakers in Heidolph’s 1000 series.

Gentle motion for sensitive samples

The shaded-pole motor drives the platform at 150 to 1,350 revolutions per minute, continuously adjustable via an analogue controller. The 1.5-millimetre orbit ensures a gentle, circular vibrating motion that keeps cell cultures in motion without damaging them. A timer limits runs to a maximum of 120 minutes and signals the end with an audible alert; for continuous processes, the unit also continues to run in continuous operation.

Compact chassis of the 1000 series

Measuring 245 x 125 x 310 millimetres and weighing 5.5 kilograms, the Titramax 100 fits on any laboratory bench. The working area of 220 x 220 millimetres accommodates samples with a total weight of up to 2 kilograms; a non-slip rubber mat with recesses makes loading and unloading easier. With a power consumption of 31 watts, the sound pressure level remains below 50 dB(A), whilst a self-resetting overheating protection system ensures safe operation.

Selection guide within the Titramax range

Those requiring more force to dislodge solid particles from wells will find it in the Titramax 101, which offers a 3-millimetre orbit within the same footprint. Those who regularly process six rather than four microtitre plates at a time and wish to retain the option of temperature-controlled processes should consider the larger Titramax 1000, which can be expanded into an incubation system with the 1000 heating module. The manufacturer does not list any dedicated temperature-control accessories for the Titramax 100 itself; it remains purely a shaking solution for samples at room temperature. Anyone who also requires a rotating motion within the same laboratory will find this in the sister model, the Rotamax 120, from the 1000 series.

Environmental conditions for laboratory use

The Titramax 100 is designed for ambient temperatures of 5 to 31 degrees Celsius at up to 80 per cent relative humidity; at higher temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius, the permissible humidity decreases linearly to 50 per cent. It is intended for installation at altitudes of up to 2,000 metres above sea level, as well as for overvoltage category II and pollution degree 2, which corresponds to a standard laboratory environment without any special protective measures. The unit compensates for mains voltage fluctuations of up to 10 per cent without any loss of function; a self-resetting overheating protection mechanism intervenes automatically if necessary.
