A 260 x 260 mm base plate ensures that even large vessels are held securely in place. The IKA C-MAG MS 10 is the largest of the three C-MAG magnetic stirrers without a heating function. It stirs up to 15 l of water, the glass-ceramic worktop supports up to 20 kg, and the speed can be adjusted between 100 and 1500 rpm.
Base area and load capacity
According to IKA, the glass-ceramic surface offers excellent chemical resistance. At 260 x 260 mm, it is significantly larger than the 180 x 180 mm of the C-MAG MS 7 and the 100 x 100 mm of the C-MAG MS 4. The unit itself measures 300 x 105 x 415 mm and weighs 6.665 kg. The housing has an IP 21 protection rating in accordance with DIN EN 60529. As with all units in this series, there is no heating element; the plate heats up solely due to the motor whilst stirring, rising by 2 K after one hour at maximum speed and a room temperature of 22 °C.
Long magnetic stir bars for large volumes
Longer stir bars are required for large volumes. The MS 10 accommodates magnetic stir bars up to 80 mm in length. IKA’s range of accessories includes IKAFLON round up to 80 mm, ellipse up to 70 mm, TRIKA up to 80 mm, power up to 50 mm, as well as glass rods and special shapes such as bone and beaker. Three stir bars (IKAFLON 20, 30 and 40) are supplied with the unit. The speed is selected via a scale from 0 to 6; the motor delivers 1.5 W and runs anti-clockwise.

Which size is right?
The MS 10 is the right choice when the stirring volume or vessel base exceeds the capacity of the smaller models. For occasional batches of up to 10 l, the MS 7 is sufficient; for up to 5 l, the MS 4. If heating is also required, IKA’s HS series is worth considering, for example the C-MAG HS 7 with 1000 W heating power.
