IKA MINISTAR 80 control overhead stirrer, up to 50 l, 80 Ncm, 0025001990

Product information "IKA MINISTAR 80 control overhead stirrer, up to 50 l, 80 Ncm, 0025001990"

With a torque of 80 Ncm and a stirring volume of up to 50 litres of water, the MINISTAR 80 control is the most powerful model in the entire MICROSTAR/MINISTAR series, designed for samples up to 60,000 mPas at speeds ranging from 0/30 to 500 revolutions per minute. Whilst speed is the key feature of the smaller models, it is power that counts here above all else, whilst the housing and weight are virtually identical to those of the MINISTAR 40 control.

LCD display with temperature measurement and timer

As with the other ‘control’ models, the difference compared to the structurally identical MINISTAR 80 digital lies in the display and additional functions. An LCD glass display shows speed, temperature and a timer ranging from 0 to 6,000 minutes; the supplied H 67.60 stainless steel temperature probe measures via PT1000 in the range from -10 to 350 °C. A torque display provides a trend value, not a calibrated absolute measurement. A micro-USB port and an integrated WPAN interface (Bluetooth) connect the device to labworldsoft.

Drive for heavy loads

The brushless DC motor draws 60 watts and delivers up to 42 watts to the stirring shaft, with a duty cycle of 100 % in continuous operation. The chuck accommodates stirring shafts from 0.5 to 8.2 mm; the hollow shaft with an 8.5 mm internal diameter can be inserted whilst the unit is stationary. On the stand, the unit is mounted on an arm with a diameter of 13 mm and a length of 160 mm. A vibration detection system switches off the drive as soon as the stirring tool becomes unbalanced, an important safeguard for both the motor and the sample, particularly at this torque level.

Robustness for continuous use

The speed is adjusted via a rotary knob with an accuracy of ±1 rpm; above 300 rpm, the deviation is a maximum of ±1 %. A button lock prevents the setting from being accidentally altered whilst the unit is running, particularly with the larger, longer-running batches for which this model is typically used. The chemical-resistant housing, made of coated cast aluminium and thermoplastic, is protected against dust and splashing water in accordance with IP 54; permissible ambient temperatures range from 5 to 40 °C with up to 80 % relative humidity.

Typical applications

  • Large batches of up to 50 litres in production and pilot plants
  • Stirring of highly viscous samples up to 60,000 mPas
  • Temperature-controlled processes with PT1000 monitoring
  • Documented stirring logs via labworldsoft for applications requiring high torque
  • Batches that would otherwise require a larger, stationary stirrer

Selection guide: an overview of the MICROSTAR/MINISTAR series

Twelve models make up the MICROSTAR and MINISTAR series from IKA: six in the ‘control’ version and six in the structurally identical ‘digital’ version. The number in the model name indicates the maximum torque in Ncm; the ‘control’ and ‘digital’ versions differ in terms of display and additional functions, but not in torque class.

IKA R 1330 Anchor Stirrer 0002022300
IKA R 1330 Anchor Stirrer, Ø 45 mm, Length 350 mm, for EUROSTAR and RW 20, 0002022300
Manufacturer number: 0002022300

The IKA R 1330 anchor stirrer (MPN 0002022300) is a stirring element made of stainless steel 1.4571 for overhead stirrers. It has a stirrer diameter of 45 mm and a shaft with a diameter of 8 mm and a length of 350 mm. It is intended for medium to highly viscous media that are stirred at low speeds, up to a maximum of 1,000 rpm.A polymer batch that sits thick in the vessel, or a mixture with a high mineral content that is to stay evenly distributed: the R 1330 is intended for tasks like these.Tangential flow of the anchor stirrer with a high shear rate at the edgeThe anchor stirrer moves the medium tangentially, that is, in the circumferential direction around the stirrer axis, and not axially like a propeller stirrer. The shear rate is high at the edge of the stirrer, and few deposits are left on the vessel wall. With viscous batches this matters, because material on the wall is withdrawn from the mixing process. It is used at low speeds. The stirrer diameter of 45 mm determines the minimum width of the opening of the stirring vessel.Typical applicationsHomogenising medium to highly viscous liquids in the laboratoryStirring in polymer reactionsEvenly distributing high mineral content in liquidsBatches where little material should be deposited on the vessel wallWorking at low speeds on an overhead stirrerSuitable for IKA overhead stirrers with an 8 mm chuckThe shaft with a diameter of 8 mm fits into chucks for an 8 mm shaft. These include the IKA overhead stirrers EUROSTAR 20, 40, 60, 100, 200 and 400 (digital and control), RW 20 digital as well as MINISTAR, MICROSTAR and NANOSTAR. In our range you will find EUROSTAR 20, 40, 60, 100, 200 and 400 digital, RW 20 digital, MINISTAR 20, 40 and 80 digital, MICROSTAR 7.5 digital and NANOSTAR 7.5 digital.Whether a stirrer drives the anchor stirrer safely in your medium depends on the viscosity and on the torque of the stirrer. The more viscous the batch, the more torque is required. Therefore check before purchase whether your device is sufficient for your batch and whether the chuck accepts a shaft of 8 mm.MaterialThe wetted parts of the R 1330 are made of stainless steel 1.4571. A stirrer shaft protector, for example the IKA R 401, also fits the overhead stirrer setup. Our procurement service helps with the choice of the suitable stirring element and the overhead stirrer for your batch.

IKA R 301 Plexiglas stirrer shaft guard, length adjustable 190–310 mm, 0002603000
IKA R 301 Plexiglas stirrer shaft guard, length adjustable 190–310 mm, 0002603000
Manufacturer number: 0002603000

The IKA R 301 stirrer shaft guard (MPN 0002603000) is an essential mechanical safety component for the safe and accident-free operation of laboratory overhead stirrers. During intensive mixing, dispersing or homogenisation processes, considerable kinetic forces act on rotating stirrer shafts. This professional shaft guard forms a physical barrier that reliably protects laboratory staff from accidental contact with the rotating parts. It effectively prevents clothing, hair or laboratory gloves from being drawn in, making the safety device a key component in risk assessments and in implementing national and international health and safety requirements. Stepless length adjustment for flexible experimental set-ups From a process engineering perspective, the R 301 model excels thanks to its high degree of telescopic flexibility. The guard can be adjusted steplessly along its axis within a length range of 190 to 310 mm and locked into place precisely. This variable geometry allows for precise adaptation to different shaft lengths, vessel heights and varying immersion depths of the stirring elements. Laboratories thus benefit from a highly adaptable protective system that can be flexibly integrated into changing experimental set-ups without compromising workplace ergonomics. Unrestricted process control thanks to a high-quality Plexiglas matrix The cylindrical protective screen is made entirely from a high-purity, mechanically stable Plexiglas matrix. This material combines minimal weight with outstanding optical clarity. Laboratory staff are able to monitor the mixture, transient flow patterns, phase transitions or any delayed boiling in the sample vessel at all times without restrictions. At the same time, the Plexiglas structure offers effective protection against transient media splashes and can be cleaned quickly and without leaving any residue.
