The RV 8 V Starter Solution combines the drive, heating bath, glassware set, vacuum pump and recirculating cooler into a single order item. Anyone purchasing a rotary evaporator for the first time or setting up a second workstation without existing pump and cooling infrastructure can thus avoid having to select and coordinate the peripheral devices with the drive individually. Unlike the automated RV-10-auto sets, the RV 8 V Starter Solution is operated manually, using a hand lift instead of a motorised lift. For laboratories seeking a complete yet straightforward distillation solution without display menus, this is often the more practical way to get started.
Vacuum pump and recirculating cooler included in the set
The VACSTAR lite vacuum pump achieves a flow rate of 1.0 cubic metres per hour or 16.7 l per minute at a final pressure of 9 millibars, controlled via the supplied VC 10 lite vacuum controller with manual setpoint input and programme-controlled operation. The RC 2 lite recirculating chiller cools down to minus 10 degrees Celsius with a cooling capacity of 400 watts, operates with a pressure and suction pump at 0.35 bar and runs on the natural refrigerant R290. Both units are compact enough to fit on a standard laboratory bench alongside the drive.
Hand lift and glass assembly
The RV 10.1 vertical glass assembly is uncoated and comes pre-assembled; its cooling surface area of 1,500 square centimetres is utilised efficiently via a specially developed glass guide. The manual hand lift raises and lowers the glass over a stroke of 120 millimetres; an integrated safety lift automatically raises the flask out of the heating bath in the event of a power cut. The speed ranges from 5 to 300 revolutions per minute.
Heating bath and connected load
The HB digital heating bath heats up to 180 degrees Celsius with a setting accuracy of 1 Kelvin and has a maximum capacity of 4 l. A 24-volt DC circuit in the drive reduces the risk associated with components carrying mains voltage. When connected to the mains, the drive unit operates at 100 to 240 volts with a power consumption of 1,500 watts; the pump and cooler are supplied separately.

Warranty and procurement service
The IKA manufacturer’s warranty applies to the drive unit and the heating bath: 2 years, extended to 5 years upon registration at ika.com/register within 90 days of purchase. The IKA ‘2+1’ warranty applies to the VACSTAR lite and RC 2 lite peripheral devices included in the set; upon registration, this is 3 years instead of 5.
