The RV 8 pro V-C Complete sits within the IKA rotary evaporator range between the compact RV-3 series and the larger RV-10 models. The drive unit, HB digital heating bath, VACSTAR digital vacuum pump with VC 10 lite vacuum controller and RC 2 lite recirculating cooler together form a standard complete solution, meaning that the pump and cooler do not need to be purchased separately. The heating bath heats up to 180 degrees Celsius; digital displays for speed and heating bath temperature allow direct control of the distillation process.

Speed, lift and display

The lift is operated manually; the stroke is 120 millimetres, and the speed ranges from 5 to 300 revolutions per minute with a tolerance of ±1 rpm below and ±1 per cent above 100 rpm. In addition to the 100 to 240-volt mains supply, the unit also features an internal 24-volt DC circuit. The setting accuracy of the heating bath setpoint temperature is 1 Kelvin; the maximum filling volume of the heating bath is 4 l.

VACSTAR digital and RC 2 lite recirculating chiller

The VACSTAR digital vacuum pump achieves a minimum vacuum of 2 millibars and is controlled via the supplied VC 10 lite vacuum controller, which accepts setpoints manually or via a programme and also controls the recirculating chiller. The coated RV 10.10 vertical glass assembly utilises the cooling surface area of 1,500 square centimetres via a specially developed glass guide. The RC 2 lite cools to minus 10 degrees Celsius at 0.35 bar with a cooling capacity of 400 watts, filtered through a stainless steel mesh filter, using the natural refrigerant R290.

Within the RV-8 series, the ‘pro’ version differs from the Starter Solution in that it features VACSTAR digital instead of VACSTAR lite and a coated rather than uncoated glass set. Across the series, the main differences lie in the heating bath temperature, the speed range and whether one or two drive units are connected to a shared peripheral system.

Warranty and procurement service

The IKA manufacturer’s warranty applies to the drive unit and the heating bath: 2 years, extended to 5 years upon registration at ika.com/register within 90 days of purchase. For the VACSTAR digital vacuum pump, VC 10 lite vacuum controller and RC 2 lite recirculating chiller, the 2+1 warranty level applies; upon registration, this is 3 years instead of 5.
