Maximum efficiency in dissolution and deagglomeration: the IKA S 25 KV - 26 LR dissolver
The IKA S 25 KV - 26 LR dissolver (MPN 0020015397) represents the very pinnacle of modern mixing and dispersion technology for demanding laboratory reactor systems. In many industrial and research sectors – be it in chemical synthesis, cosmetics development, paint manufacturing or food technology – users face the significant daily challenge of homogenously incorporating fine powders, highly cohesive solids or sticky pigments into liquid media. Very often, stubborn agglomerates form when these solids are stirred in. These disruptive clumps of particles are simply moved in circles by conventional agitators such as propeller, paddle or anchor agitators, but are not effectively broken up mechanically. The result is incomplete reactions, poor textures or significantly prolonged process times. This high-speed dissolver was designed specifically for these critical and energy-intensive process steps. It offers uncompromising performance in intensive mixing, dissolution and deagglomeration to ensure homogeneous, completely lump-free dispersions in the shortest possible time.
The aerodynamic dissolver principle
In direct comparison to a conventional rotor-stator dispersing tool, in which the medium is forced through a very narrow, defined gap between two components, the S 25 KV - 26 LR model utilises a specially serrated dissolver disc with a diameter of 26 millimetres. This solid metal disc rotates freely at extremely high speeds (high speed) within the liquid medium. The sharp teeth on the edge of the disc, which are alternately curved upwards and downwards, generate immense local shear forces and strong turbulence. The rotation accelerates the liquid radially outwards with great force, which simultaneously creates an enormous axial suction effect (vortex formation) at the centre. This intelligent flow pattern draws the floating or agglomerated powder particles from the liquid surface directly downwards towards the rotating toothed disc. There, they are literally shattered by the high kinetic energy of the teeth and broken down into their fine primary particles. In process engineering, this principle is the absolute gold standard method for the rapid incorporation of poorly wettable thickeners, colour pigments or high-molecular-weight polymers into aqueous or highly solvent-based systems.
Vacuum and pressure tightness (the ‘KV’ seal)
Another outstanding feature of this stirring tool – and one that is indispensable for many applications – is encapsulated in the specific abbreviation “KV”. In IKA products, this stands for high-quality ball bearings combined with a special sealing technology that makes the tool absolutely vacuum- and pressure-tight (up to the respective system-specific limits of the laboratory reactors). When working professionally with state-of-the-art laboratory reactors such as the IKA LR 1000 control System or the versatile LR-2.ST series, this leak-tightness is of fundamental importance. Sensitive chemical reactions or the production of high-purity cosmetics and emulsions often require the strict exclusion of oxygen. Users must work under a protective inert gas atmosphere or specifically degas the sample under vacuum to prevent disruptive air pockets in pasty, viscous media. A conventional, open dispersing tool would cause the reactor chamber to leak under these extreme conditions and ruin the process. The S 25 KV - 26 LR dissolver agitator, on the other hand, seals the reactor opening absolutely securely via the flange. This allows you to deagglomerate your samples at full high-speed rotation whilst a strong vacuum is maintained inside the vessel – an enormous technological advantage for process quality.
Material quality, hygiene and compatibility
As this dissolver stirrer is designed for direct, continuous contact with aggressive chemicals, highly abrasive pigments and reactive media, all parts in contact with the media (including the dissolver disc and the shaft) are made from high-quality, chemically extremely resistant AISI 316L stainless steel. This industry-proven material not only guarantees excellent resistance to most organic solvents, acids and alkalis, but can also be cleaned safely and without leaving any residue after use. Thanks to its robust construction, the unit is ideally suited to the rigours of everyday laboratory use. As an original accessory, the S 25 KV - 26 LR is precisely matched to IKA’s reactor platforms. It is fully compatible with the T 25 digital LR disperser, the LR 1000 systems (basic and control) and the entire LR-2.ST series (including Allrounder, High Performer and Starvisc). Investing in this highly specialised piece of equipment massively increases the efficiency of your laboratory processes, significantly reduces stirring times and decisively optimises the quality of your end products.
