Product information "LAUDA Microcool MC 1200 Recirculating Chiller, -10 to 40 °C, 1,200 Watts Cooling Capacity, L004461"
If several loads need to be supplied simultaneously on a single circuit, or if the heat input from a single load is high, the LAUDA Microcool MC 1200 is the most powerful model in the Microcool range: 1,200 watts of cooling capacity at 20 °C, operating temperature range -10 to 40 °C, natural refrigerant R-290. Measuring 450 x 550 x 650 millimetres and weighing 63 kilograms, a permanent installation space on the floor or under a table must be provided; the unit is too large to be placed on a laboratory bench.
Cooling capacity and circulation
At 40 °C with a water-glycol mixture and at 20 °C with ethanol, the MC 1200 achieves a cooling capacity of 1.2 kilowatts in each case. As the setpoint temperature decreases, the capacity decreases: 1.05 kilowatts at 10 °C, 0.75 kilowatts at 0 °C, 0.4 kilowatts at minus 10 °C. Circulation is provided by a magnetically coupled block pump, connected via a G 3/4-inch thread. The circuit’s fill volume is between 7 and 14 l, depending on the external pipe volume of the connected load.
Display, safety and automatic control
The actual and setpoint values are shown on a 1-line LED display; control is fully electronic and continuous. An illuminated liquid level indicator with a low-level alarm protects against dry running, whilst winding temperature monitoring protects against pump overload. An auto-start timer and an auto-shut-down function ensure unattended operation, meaning the unit can be switched on and off at fixed times. With a sound pressure level of 59 dB(A), a power consumption of 0.82 kilowatts and a current draw of 4.2 amperes, the MC 1200 falls within the typical range for this cooling capacity.
Mains connection and maintenance
The unit is connected to the mains at 230 volts at 50 hertz via a power cable with an angled Schuko plug. If a different plug type is required, for example for the UK or North America, LAUDA supplies these under a separate order number within the same product range. The unit is filled from the top and drained via a connection on the rear of the unit, which is convenient when changing the coolant or servicing the pump.
Typical applications
With a cooling capacity of 1,200 watts, the MC 1200 is suitable for applications where several loads are connected to a single circuit or where a single load generates a significant amount of heat:
- Centralised cooling supply for several rotary evaporators or condensers on a single circuit
- Cooling of reactors with high reaction heat during continuous operation
- Replacement of several smaller individual coolers with a single central unit
- Laboratory operations with continuous cooling requirements throughout the day
Selection guide for the Microcool range
If the cooling requirement is lower, the LAUDA Microcool MC 600 with 600 watts is sufficient, or, for the laboratory bench, the compact LAUDA Microcool MC 350. If the same circuit also needs to be heated, the compressor-based LAUDA Alpha RA 12 and LAUDA Alpha RA 24 cooling thermostats are the more technically suitable solution.
