With 449 litres, the Memmert Compressor-Cooled Incubator ICP450 is the third of four ICP sizes and differs from the smaller models by its wide interior of 1,040 × 720 × 600 mm (W×H×D). 30 kg are allowed per shelf and 200 kg for the whole unit. The setting temperature range extends from -12 to +60 °C, R290 propane serves as refrigerant, and operation is via a TwinDISPLAY. Externally the chamber measures 1,224 × 1,467 × 784 mm, and the door handle adds 56 mm.
Wide interior, up to eight shelves
Two electropolished stainless steel grid shelves are part of the series, and a maximum of 8 shelves are possible. With 30 kg per shelf, each level carries more than on the ICP110 and ICP260 with 20 kg each. For even higher loads there is the factory option K1: it mounts support rails in the working chamber for reinforced stainless steel grid shelves or reinforced perforated sheets that can bear up to 60 kg. The limit of 200 kg per unit remains in place. For the drip trays there are variants with and without K1.
Cooling and heating via compressor and air jacket
The CFC-free cooling and heating system with R290 propane has an automatic defrost. An air jacket controls the temperature of the interior all round, and the thermal jacket is separated from the interior, so that no evaporators dry out the material. The unit is not suitable for permanent storage at sub-zero temperatures, and in continuous operation the glass door can ice up. Temperatures down to -12 °C can be set, and the setting accuracy is 0.1 °C.
Control, timer and programming
The ControlCOCKPIT works with an adaptive digital PID microprocessor controller and two TFT colour graphic displays. The digital countdown clock is set between 1 minute and 99 days, and SetpointWAIT postpones the start of the process time until the setpoint temperature is reached. On the unit, temperature unit, circulating air motor speed, program runtime and time zones can be set, and the calibration records three temperature values. Programs created with AtmoCONTROL are transferred via Ethernet or USB port. The program sequence is saved in the event of a power failure.
Protection against deviations
Two Pt100 sensors of DIN class A in 4-wire measurement monitor each other. The mechanical temperature limiter TB (protection class 1, DIN 12880) interrupts the heating at about 10 °C above the maximum chamber temperature. TWW (protection class 3.3) and TWB (protection class 2) are available for selection on the display. The AutoSAFETY protection ASF follows the setpoint at a freely selectable interval and reports deviations upwards or downwards by alarm, visually and acoustically. In the event of a fault, the self-diagnosis system helps.
Selection guide compared with ICP260 and ICP750
The ICP260 has 256 litres, 640 × 800 × 500 mm inside and up to 9 shelves with 20 kg each. The ICP450 is wider and deeper inside, but lower (720 instead of 800 mm), and allows only 8 shelves. Anyone who needs space in height and up to 14 shelves takes the ICP750 with 749 litres and 1,200 mm internal height at the same width and depth. Anyone who also needs to control air humidity will find 256 litres with active humidification and dehumidification from 10 to 80 % rh in the ICH260 climate chamber. Its setting temperature range begins at -10 °C, and with humidity it works from +10 to +60 °C.
